The iconic WM Phoenix Open returns this week, with Scottie Scheffler leading the field for the next event on the PGA Tour.
Tony Finau thinks Tiger Woods hit the ‘greatest shot’ ever at the WM Phoenix Open in 1997, coming at the famous par-three 16th.
Rory McIlroy has praised Scheffler’s discipline on the course, although it was the former who emerged victorious on the PGA Tour last time out.
Scheffler finished T9 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am as McIlroy lifted the trophy, securing his first win at the iconic venue and 27th PGA Tour success.
The world number one now turns his focus to TPC Scottsdale in Arizona, having only just returned from a hand injury at Pebble Beach.

Scottie Scheffler has best TPC Scottsdale birdie record ahead of WM Phoenix Open
Nick Taylor won the 2024 WM Phoenix Open as Scheffler finished T3, with the former having edged out Charley Hoffman with a birdie on the second playoff hole.
It is, however, the current best player in the world who stands out from the crowd regarding birdies at the venue in recent times.
As per Justin Ray, Scheffler has the most birdies or better per round at TPC Scottsdale since 2020 among those taking part this week.
His table-topping figure of 5.67 is followed by Sahith Theegala’s 5.17, with Justin Thomas (4.80) and Matt Fitzpatrick (4.75) in third and fourth respectively.
Scottie Scheffler boasts best WM Phoenix Open cumulative score since 2020
Scheffler is, of course, only getting his 2025 season up and running, meaning he should be more than satisfied with his positive start.
Replicating his feats from last season will be a tall order, although it would be foolish to rule that out from the world number one.
A win this week would send a real message to his rivals, although he has already sent one with his birdie record and indeed his overall efforts in recent times.
Again per Justin Ray, Scheffler also leads the way for the best cumulative score to par at the WM Phoenix Open since 2020 among this week’s field.
His -69 puts him top of the leaderboard, with his compatriot Justin Thomas close behind in second with -65.
