Our writers pick the The American Express winner
The Golfing Gazette experts have made their predictions for the winner of The American Express this week.
James Shearman: The American Express is usually a birdie-fest, and Sam Burns is one of the best putters on the planet. The 29-year-old has also finished T11, T6, and T29 in his last three starts at La Quinta, so he usually plays well at the event.
Jordan Harris: Alex Noren very nearly won the Hero World Challenge at the end of an outstanding 2025 for the Swede. If Scottie Scheffler is not going to triumph at La Quinta, perhaps Noren will secure his first-ever PGA Tour title.
Charlie Walker: I expect Robert MacIntyre to get the win here. He put in a really good showing at the Sony Open, but mental mistakes cost him. He’ll learn from that and carry his top form into The American Express.
Antony Martin: I fancy Matt Fitzpatrick for the Amex. His form was trending towards the end of 2025, and I think he could get on a roll in La Quinta.
Peter Lynch: It’s time for Ludvig Aberg to really kick on, and I think he’ll start here, even with the strong field taking part.
