LIV Golf completely changed the golfing landscape when they emerged onto the scene back in June 2022.

Numerous high-profile PGA Tour players jumped ship in order to join LIV Golf, including the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson and later on John Rahm, Cameron Smith and Tyrrell Hatton.

The majority of golf fans would love to see the two parties come to some kind of agreement, so they can watch the best golfers in the world compete against each other outside of the four major championships.

The Ryder Cup proved just how much LIV golfers have to offer, with DeChambeau, Rahm and Hatton all in action at Bethpage Black last week.

However, a deal between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf is said to be nowhere near happening.

The reason for that is said to be LIV’s insistence on a team format playing a role in the future of professional golf – something the PGA Tour are not on board with.

One thing is clear, though, and that is that LIV Golf is not going anywhere. With the 2026 on the horizon, the Saudi-backed outfit will now be looking at potential new signings.

LIV Golf as an entity is in its infancy, so they still have a long way to go with regard to building their brand.

However, it seems like they may well be heading down a different route when it comes to the new signings they make.

When speaking to Bunkered, Cleeks captain Martin Kaymer said he and his team are on the lookout for a new signing.

He explained: “We are already on the case talking to several players.

We have had a lot of interest which is a great thing.”

“We have a lot of interest from the European Tour. Guys who were finishing top-10 in Ireland [last month]. I have had calls from managers, they wanted to talk. There is a lot of interest.”

“A good resume does not mean he will perform well on LIV so we need to go into more detail and data,” Kaymer added.

“Like what Edoardo Molinari does for the Ryder Cup. We need to find someone who will make the team better. You look at some LIV free agents, we tried to compare them to Frederik for example.

“He was our weakest player, for example if those players would have counted, where would we have finished. We need to go into this detail, and this is what we are trying to do right now to become a better team.”

Rory McIlroy won the Irish Open a few weeks ago, but we all know he will not be jumping ship to LIV.

So who could the other potential new LIV signings be?

Well, these are the players who filled out the top-10 at The K Club last month: Joakim Lagergren, Angel Hidalgo, Rafa Cabrera Bello, Angel Ayora, Adrien Saddier, Oliver Lindell, Jacob Skov Olesen, Daniel Brown, Jeff Winther and Shaun Norris.

Many casual golf fans will never even have heard of the majority of the names on that list.

The DP World Tour will surely not be worried about the prospect of losing any of them in all honesty.

It does seem like LIV Golf are done with the idea of signing superstar names. Perhaps the next step in their model is signing talented young players or lesser-known golfers who they believe have the ability to become stars, a ‘Moneyball strategy’ if you will.

And maybe that’s the best route for them to take in their evolution.
