Ted Scott has had the best seat in the house throughout the 2024 PGA Tour season, having, of course, been on the bag of Scottie Scheffler as the world number one secured eight victories worldwide.

Scottie Scheffler‘s season is likely to be talked about for years to come. Not only did he win eight times, but the size of the events the 28-year-old triumphed at allowed Scheffler to put together a resume in 2024 alone that most players would dream of having across their entire careers.

Scheffler won The Masters, The Players, The Tour Championship, an Olympic gold medal, and four signature events to blow the rest of the competition away throughout the year.

Xander Schauffele’s coach Chris Como noted that Scheffler strikes the ball as well as Tiger Woods did in his prime, but it is also fair to say that the two-time major champion has probably not got the same amount of attention as Woods.

What great players often say about Scottie Scheffler

Woods’ charisma was arguably like nothing else the game has seen. And that has perhaps meant that Scheffler has potentially not the full credit that he has deserved for what he has achieved over the last 12 months, in particular.

Certainly, his caddie Ted Scott believes that Scheffler goes under the radar a little too much, but he told Subpar that his peers are in no doubt at all about just how good he truly is, particularly after playing alongside him.

“I think sometimes people that are fiery or wild outwardly, they attract more attention. It’s entertainment, right. And I think the true golf enthusiasts can appreciate how good Scottie is, and often times when we play with other players who are great players, they make little comments like, ‘wow, this dude is so good’, because they see it and they appreciate how hard he’s worked to develop the skills that he has, and how he chips in on me 10 times by the end of March,” he said.

“He hits the ball close from 200 yards, 100 yards, 50 yards, 250, it’s like dude, what does this guy not do? So I think as a golf enthusiast, you can really appreciate that, but sometimes maybe from an entertainment standpoint, the media probably does miss out on it.”

What world number one still has to prove before becoming an all-time great

It will be very interesting to see how Scheffler builds on his 2024. It is going to be incredibly difficult for him to get close to replicating the number of wins in future years.

Should he manage it for three or four more years, there will be absolutely no question that Scheffler will have put his name alongside the greatest to have ever played the game. But clearly, that is going to be a monumental challenge.

Having said that, there were moments when fans may have felt tempted to write Scheffler’s chances off, perhaps most notably, on the back nine on Sunday at the Olympic Games. And obviously, it would prove to be the American stood atop the podium when everything was said and done.

So doubting Scheffler is clearly a foolish move.
