The one question Scottie Scheffler probably still needs to answer is how long can he sustain anything like the dominance which saw him win eight times worldwide in 2024.
There is no doubt that Scottie Scheffler was the rightful winner of the FedEx Cup play-offs, with the 28-year-old capitalising on his advantage at The Tour Championship to get across the line at East Lake.
Adam Scott noted that Scheffler’s year had not been since the days of Tiger Woods, with The Masters champion winning eight of his last 15 starts worldwide. As well as one major and The Tour Championship, Scheffler claimed four signature event titles, The Players, and an Olympic gold medal.
Now that the debate over the player of the year has been put to bed, there is a fresh discussion to be had concerning how many wins Scheffler will manage in 2025 and beyond. He is well on his way to becoming an all-time great if his 2024 is a sign of what is to come.
Billy Horschel predicts how many wins Scottie Scheffler will get in 2025
Speaking on Fairways of Life with Matt Adams Golf Show, Billy Horschel was asked how Scheffler’s season next year will compare with this one – and while he backed him to win a few more times, he suggested that he is not convinced that he can repeat his eight wins.
“That’s a great question, I would say fall under the under. To win seven times on the PGA Tour, last time someone did that was Tiger Woods. Scottie’s a great player and he’s super talented, but listen, the PGA Tour is very strong and very deep and we have a lot of top players,” he said.
“You look at what Xander’s done this year, I know he won two majors, he could’ve easily won three or four more times. Obviously, Rory McIlroy, I would say he had an okay year by his standards, so I would expect him in 2025 to step up. You got guys like Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, you’ve got young guys like Ludvig, once Ludvig wins a big tournament – yes, he’s won RSM – but once he wins on tour, I think that’s just going to be a David Duval-like situation where I think he’s going to realise what it takes and it’s just going to be a snowball effect.

“So I’m going to go with the under, I’m going to say Scottie does win multiple times, I’m sure he probably wins three or four times. But to duplicate the year he had this year, I think is very difficult. And it’s nothing against Scottie, and I believe he’s super talented, but the talent level that Tiger had, and just the dedication and sacrifice that he made for 15, 20-plus years, you have to have something very similar, and now Scottie’s got a young family, he’s got a young kid, he’s an amazing father already at three, four months, so I’m going to take the under.”
Just the four wins next year
It says everything about how good Scheffler has been that three or four wins would almost appear to be underwhelming – obviously depending on when they come.
But you can definitely understand Horschel’s view, given how Scheffler seemed to secure victory at all of the biggest events on the PGA Tour – winning at Bay Hill, The Players, The Memorial all in one year. Most players can probably only dream of winning those titles across their entire career.
Scheffler also has to deal with the pressure of being the player everyone needs to beat. Of course, that has been the case for some time, but he seems to have gone to another level over the last year.
It seems almost impossible for Scheffler to replicate his 2024 next year – but the fact there is a debate over whether he could speaks volumes.
