Jon Rahm has shared his version of events from the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.
Rahm represented Europe in all five sessions at Bethpage, winning three matches and losing two.
Besides Europe’s victory, the biggest talking point from the event was the behavior of the United States fans.
Several European players, most notably Rory McIlroy, have since spoken about how the atmosphere turned nasty.
Rahm has now revealed what he told Tyrrell Hatton on the first hole after realizing what they were up against from behind the ropes.

Should Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton be allowed to play at the 2027 Ryder Cup?
Jon Rahm told Tyrrell Hatton to expect crowds to misbehave
European captain Luke Donald has been praised for his detailed preparation, which included simulations of abuse from American fans.
However, Rahm admitted that he was still not prepared for the behavior of the crowds while he was hitting shots.
He knew the European players would be heckled, but he expected it to stop when they were about to swing the club.
He explained on the Subpar podcast: “With my groups, me, Tyrrell, and Sepp [Straka], all three of us are rather overweight, those two have a very far back hairline, and two of us are with LIV, so all I heard was: ‘Traitor’, ‘terrorist’, ‘fat’, ‘Ozempic’ a lot, and Turkey hairline appointment things. We heard that a lot.
“It’s not so much what was being said… Of course, you get the usual ones who say something about your wife or your kids. That was expected, but it’s over the line.
“It was more the fact that it started from the second we got to the range until we left the golf course. For 10 to 12 hours, it was nonstop.
“And I know other athletes hear it as well. If the Lakers are going to Boston, they’re going to hear it. Anybody who goes to Philly heard it as well.
“But if you’re on the 50-yard line, you don’t hear anything. In our case, every single second, you hear it.
“And the other thing I wasn’t ready for, if you see the opening tee shot that I hit 400 yards, was for it to keep going as we were taking the club back. We hit a lot of shots with them still talking and that was the part that we had to adjust to.”
Rahm’s experience on the first hole on Friday morning led him to warn Hatton that it would likely remain the same all weekend.
He told Hatton: “On that first hole, I told Tyrrell on the green: ‘Well, I guess we’re not going to hit a shot all day or all tournament without it being rowdy.”
Did Keegan Bradley make a bigger mistake than how he set up Bethpage Black at the Ryder Cup?
Jon Rahm thinks the US fans helped Europe
Jon Rahm believes that the disrespect from the fans in New York actually helped Europe win the Ryder Cup.
The European team already had great camaraderie, but they rallied around each other even more in the hostile environment at Bethpage.
When asked whether the crowd helped, Rahm responded: “I think so. I think it made us feel together even more.
“I told Sepp and Tyrrell every time we went to the tee, and I think I was saying it more for me, but I was like, ‘Hey, it’s you and me, let’s go out there…’
“For Tyrrell especially, I was like, ‘If you’re about to just lose your mind, yell at me, not at them. Yell at me, and I’ll do the same.
“All of us actually had a really fun way to look at it. Whenever they called us fat, especially me and Sepp, we laughed because do they think we don’t own a mirror? We know. We’re the ones eating. I get it. Let’s move on.”
