Golf Channel pundit Rex Hoggard has laid down the gauntlet to an underperforming PGA Tour star ahead of this week’s Procore Championship in Napa.

The FedEx Cup Fall series begins this week as PGA Tour players jostle for position ahead of the 2025 season.

Max Homa, however, is at the Silverado Resort for a very different reason.

The American is one of the six Presidents Cup players at the Procore Championship as he seeks to regain form ahead of the upcoming event at Royal Montreal Golf Club.

Hoggard was shocked that Homa wanted to play at the Presidents Cup, and the Golf Channel pundit has now piled the pressure on the six-time PGA Tour event winner.

“I am not going to be overly mean to Max Homa,” Hoggard explained. “It was in the past when he got this captain’s pick, but he needs a good week. He doesn’t need to prove anything to the US captain because he’s already a pick.”

Hoggard added: “However, if you look at one thing you need to do well at Royal Montreal, that’s driving the ball well, and Max hasn’t done that all season long. He needs to show some sort of progress this weekend in Napa.”

Max Homa makes the right decision ahead of the Presidents Cup

Typically, a player of Homa’s quality would’ve taken time off ahead of the Presidents Cup. However, after he missed out on the Tour Championship, participation at the Procore Championship was non-negotiable.

Homa has struggled off the tee in recent times and endured a torrid second half of the season after impressing at the Masters.

All eyes will now be on the 33-year-old and whether he can finally hit the fairway consistently ahead of the Royal Montreal showdown.

Failure to do so could see Jim Furyk come under fire before the first tee shot has even been hit in Quebec.
