Rory McIlroy got over the line last night with a stunning round of golf at Quail Hollow to pick up his 26th PGA Tour title.
McIlroy was on fire in his final round as he won The Wells Fargo Championship for the fourth time.
It means the Northern Irishman goes into this week’s PGA Championship at Valhalla in the best form possible and with hopes high of finally landing that fifth major.
Of course, a lot will depend on not only McIlroy turning up with the same level of game but also Scottie Scheffler either not turning up at all or not quite being at his best.
On his day, McIlroy is good enough to hang with Scheffler but such is the American’s consistency this season that it’s hard to bet against him.
And speaking about just who might win, Sky Sports expert and golf legend, Dame Laura Davies has had her say.

Davies was commentating last night as McIlroy tapped in to seal his victory.
And while she was impressed with what she saw from Rory, Davies admitted on Sky Sports that as it stands, Scottie Scheffler is still her pick to win at Valhalla.
“Well I think if….well if you’re talking about in the betting it’s probably going to be McIlroy but I think Scheffler would still be my favourite,” Davies said.

While a host of huge names have moved over to LIV Golf and damaged some of the PGA Tour’s roster, nobody is bigger than Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler right now.
Going into Valhalla, if the duo both show up and perform then we could be in for some of the finest head to head golf we’ve ever seen.
For the PGA Tour, that’s exactly what they’ll want to happen. Too often this year we’ve seen the top players either not getting near Scheffler at all or a relatively unknown player winning on the more secondary events.
Having Scheffler and McIlroy go head to head in the PGA Championship would be simply brilliant viewing.
And on the form from this past week, don’t bet against McIlroy actually getting one over Scheffler.
