Scottie Scheffler was in majestic form at Royal Portrush as he won The Open Championship for the first time in his career.
Now Scheffler is just one major win away from completing the Grand Slam.
He needs to win The US Open to complete the set and the general consensus is that he won’t struggle to win his national open like his fellow countryman Phil Mickelson has done throughout his career.
The 29-year-old’s performance on his way to winning The Open was an exhibition of golf of the very highest level.
Scheffler is now drawing comparisons with Tiger Woods after his win at The Open.

Those comparisons do not come around lightly.
Next up on Scheffler’s agenda will be his pursuit of the Grand Slam.
Sir Nick Faldo makes Scottie Scheffler prediction as he chases the Grand Slam
Faldo knows how hard it is to win The US Open.
The Englishman had four top-5 finishes in America’s national Open, including finishing runner-up to Curtis Strange in 1988.
So does he think the current world number one will be able to succeed where he failed?
Faldo suggested that completing the Grand Slam at Shinnecock Hills could very much be on for Scheffler.

“The calmness on his face is amazing isn’t it. This is another incredible part of his journey. I’ve got a feeling this man is going to be next. You know, we waited all of those years after Tiger for the Grand Slam, Rory makes it after 11 years. I think we’re going to be on that he makes it next year.“
Sky Sports commentator Ewen Murray then said: “And a similar type of golf course to do it on, in Shinnecock.“
To which Faldo responded: “Yeah, absolutely, Shinnecock is America’s kind of links, inland links, with wispy, fescue grass, breezy. Absolutely right up his street.“
Scottie Scheffler’s US Open record
Scheffler has a decent record at The US Open, but he has only really come close to winning the tournament once, back in 2022 at The Country Club in Brookline.
Here are his career numbers at The US Open:
| Results | Scheffler’s totals |
| Appearances | 8 |
| Wins | 0 |
| Top-5s | 2 |
| Top-10s | 4 |
| Cuts made | 6 |
There is no doubt in my mind that Scheffler will win The US Open at some point during the remainder of his career.
Nick Faldo is right, Shinnecock Hills is the perfect setup for Scheffler, and the 29-year-old American will undoubtedly head into that tournament as the hot favourite to win.
