Tiger Woods had a transcending impact on the game and now Scottie Scheffler is being tipped to emulate the great man.

Woods has won 82 PGA Tour titles and 15 major championships throughout his time in the game, and Scheffler currently has 17 regular tour wins and four majors to his name.

Whilst Woods was bold, brash and exuberant, Scheffler is calm, stoic and goes about his business in an extremely matter-of-fact way.

After the Open Championship, Xander Schauffele said that Scheffler is ‘doing Tiger things’, and the 29-year-old is the closest thing we have seen to Woods for two decades now.

The man from Dallas, Texas, just goes about his business in such a professional manner.

In fact, some people find it hard to warm to Scheffler’s nonplussed response to winning golf tournaments.

Would it surprise anyone if we are talking about Scheffler as a 15-time major champion in 15 years’ time? It shouldn’t.

But how does the man himself feel about being compared to Woods?

Scottie Scheffler says how he feels about Tiger Woods comparison after Open win

Scheffler is obviously still a long way away from matching Woods’ records in the game.

However, it’s hard to argue that he isn’t on the right path to matching him.

After his win at The Open, Scheffler was asked to give his honest verdict on how he genuinely feels about the comparisons being made between himself and Woods.

He said: I still think they’re a bit silly. Tiger won, what, 15 majors? This is my fourth. I just got one-fourth of the way there. I think Tiger stands alone in the game of golf. He was inspirational for me growing up. He was a very, very talented guy, and he was a special person to be able to be as good as he was at the game of golf.

I don’t focus on that kind of stuff. That’s not what motivates me. I’m not motivated by winning championships. I don’t look at the beginning of the year and just say, hey, I want to win X amount of tournaments, I want to win whatever it is. I don’t do that. I have dreams and aspirations that I think about, but at the end of the day, when I wake up to practice, I feel like what motivates me is just getting out and getting to live out my dream. I get to play professional golf, and I feel like I’m called to do it to the best of my ability.

When I wake up in the morning, I try and put max effort in each day I get to go out and practice. When I’m working out, when I’m doing the cold tub, doing recovery, I feel like I’m just called to do it to the best of my ability. Outside of that, I don’t place much emphasis on winning tournaments. I don’t place much emphasis on things that I can accomplish. It’s just mostly about putting in the proper work and coming out here and competing.

Career records compared: Tiger Woods vs Scottie Scheffler

Woods has an incredible record to his name.

However, Scheffler’s is shaping up to be pretty special as well.

Here is how their career results look compared with one another:

It will be fascinating to see just how close Scheffler gets to Woods’ records over the next 10-15 years.

If Scheffler remains injury-free, there is every chance that he will get very close to the 49-year-old’s tally, and dare I say it, maybe even usurp him.
