Shane Lowry came up well short in the end this week at the Irish Open as he failed to give the home crowd what they wanted.
Royal County Down was all set for either Lowry or Rory McIlroy to win out and give the Irish fans something to cheer about.
However, McIlroy fluffed his lines on the back nine before seeing Rasmus Hojgaard win, while Lowry could only muster up some decent enough golf to finish 12th.
For Lowry, it was a disappointing display really in conditions which many feel would have suited him.
And speaking about his tournament overall, Lowry has admitted his plan for the final round came undone thanks to his finish in round three.

Shane Lowry explains why his Irish Open plan failed
Speaking to the media after his final round saw him finish in 12th, Lowry admitted he’d told his pals the game plan last night before falling just short today.
“Yeah, I got off to the start I wanted to yesterday but finished really badly,” Lowry said.
“I was saying to the boys last night, if I had parred the last few holes last night, gone out level par, I would have thought, you shoot 6- or 7-under out there, and it’s not easy for a leader to break par out there.
“But yeah, look, I gave it my best. It wasn’t good enough and we move on.”
Lowry is better than a 12th at the Irish Open
It was all a bit disappointing in the end for the Irish fans as they saw both Lowry and McIlroy drift away.
Yes, McIlroy did brilliantly to give himself a putt on 18 and he only narrowly missed out on a playoff.
However, for Lowry, there is a feeling of disappointment really despite him finishing under par.

Lowry is a master in these sorts of conditions and on a course he knows well, he will have expected more.
As he says here, round three really put a dent in his hopes and in the end, he just left himself with too much to do.
