Shane Lowry knows a thing or two about making a hole in one on some of the world’s most famous par threes and he’s as qualified as anyone in terms of picking out the best holes around the globe.

The Irishman has made an ace three times on the PGA Tour and has done it at some of the most iconic places in the world of golf, including Augusta National.

Indeed, Lowry’s hole-in-one at Pebble Beach this year put him in the unique position of being the only play to make an ace at all three of Augusta National, TPC Sawgrass, and Pebble.

However, for Lowry, there are a couple more courses out there which have the best par threes around.

Shane Lowry names his favourite par threes in golf

Lowry was speaking on the latest episode of the Sky Sports golf podcast and was quickly pressed on his hole-in-one at Pebble.

From there, the topic of conversation drifted to the best par threes to make an ace on in the world and as well as the three Lowry has managed, he also picked out two more iconic holes.

“The postage stamp and 12 at Augusta. I don’t think anybody has had a hole in one at 12 in a long time! A lot of the time you are not even aiming at the flag there. That is probably the top five,” Lowry said.

Why Shane Lowry feels so lucky to be a PGA Tour player

For some golfers, making money and winning big events on the PGA Tour might be the be-all and end-all for them and in a way, that’s fine, as it’s all about making a living.

For Lowry, though, it’s more about embracing the moments his career in golf brings him and he admits that most days, he can’t believe what he gets to do.

“Most days in my life and doing what I do, I wake up and pinch myself at the life I have,” Lowry admitted.

“Even just some of the stuff I have done in the game. To win the Irish Open as an amateur, to win the Open in Ireland, to have holes in one on those holes.

“When I made the one on the seventh at Pebble, I just laughed to myself all day, [thinking] I am one of the luckier golfers in the world that I got to achieve this.”

With Lowry one of a number of golfers from Europe playing well in 2024 and winning events, the Irishman will be hoping for another big year in 2025.

With a Ryder Cup spot to play for, Lowry knows he’ll need to be at his best but as of right now, you’d imagine he is a near certainty to make Luke Donald’s team.
