LIV Dallas is underway and with the semi-finals of the team finale today, it’s expected to be an exciting day of golf in the sunshine of Texas.

The semi-finals sees the three best teams from the LIV season join the fray as Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers, Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII, and Cameron Smith’s Rippers GC get involved.

All three of the those teams had a bye from the quarter-finals and then had the honour of picking their opponents in the semis.

Naturally, at this stage of the tournament, all the teams playing are excellent.

However, when Cameron Smith opted to selected Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs, there was a look of surprise on the experienced Spaniard’s face.

And in the press room, that was something the media picked up on.

Sergio Garcia surprised at Cameron Smith picking Fireballs at LIV Dallas

Speaking in the media event to go through the semi-finals and reflect on the quarter-finals, Garcia was asked if he was shocked at Smith and the Rippers picking his team.

And the Spaniard did concede he was a touch surprised.

“Maybe a little bit. It was definitely one of the options that I thought about, but yeah, at the end of the day, there’s not many easy teams to pick for either of them, so obviously I think it’s going to be a great matchup again,” Garcia said.

“All eight teams are great, but the four that were left obviously are very, very good, and I think it should be a great matchup tomorrow. Hopefully we can put on a great show.”

Fireballs v Rippers one of the closer match ups

While on paper, the Crushers and Legion XI should cruise through to the finals, there’s less certainty in the other two matches.

The Rippers and Fireballs is an interesting match-up and with Smith and Garcia both playing in the fourballs event, anything can happen.

The final match is the Stingrays against the Aces. Again, on paper, the Stingrays are looking the better and more in-form team. But the Aces do have two Masters winners in Patrick Reed and Dustin Johnson on the books, so they could easily win out.

All in all, it’s an exciting weekend of golf for LIV and one they’ll hope catches the eyes of the world.
