Sergio Garcia has made an admission concerning what he believes the winning score could be at LIV Golf UK this weekend, with the tour taking on JCB in the coming days.

Sergio Garcia has definitely had an interesting time of things of late, with the Spaniard missing out on the chance to tee it up at The Open Championship after failing to qualify for the event at Royal Troon.

However, the 44-year-old ended up winning the previous LIV event at Valderrama, while his Fireballs side triumphed in the team event after Anirban Lahiri’s missed putt on the final green set up play-offs for both titles.

It was no surprise to see the 2017 Masters champion shine in Andalucia. Valderrama is Garcia’s favourite course, and the victory proved to be the fourth time that he has come out on top there.

There is a much greater question mark over who will win LIV’s next event, which sees the tour in the United Kingdom, and the JCB course.

It is the first time the event has been to the Uttoxeter course – probably most famously known for the terrifying par three 17th which plays into an island green from well over 200 yards.

And it would appear that Garcia is almost completely in the dark regarding what a good score around the course is going to be this week.

Taking to X, he suggested that he has no idea whether the winner is going to produce a masterclass or barely break par…

A big opportunity for LIV this week

Interestingly, five under par was what Garcia finished on at Valderrama before he beat Lahiri in their play-off on the second extra hole. Meanwhile, no-one has won a LIV event this season on 20 under par, with Tyrrell Hatton getting closest at Nashville on a score of 19 under par.

It is a good opportunity for LIV to attract more attention, with many of the PGA Tour’s best sitting out this week’s 3M Open in Minnesota.

The likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm will be involved immediately after their performances at The Open. For those golf fans not married to one tour over the other, there is surely no question which will be the more appealing product this weekend.

And another dramatic finish will only help attract more viewers, whether that comes from a birdie-fest or a hard-fought slog where the player who makes the fewest mistakes just about gets across the line.
