Scottie Scheffler hasn’t been anywhere near his best at the WM Phoenix Open this week.

However, the fact that Scottie Scheffler still has a chance to win the WM Phoenix Open is a testament to his ability to grind out scores when he’s not at his best.

Even if his chances of winning the tournament are slim, Scheffler has a chance to record his 17th consecutive top-8 finish on the PGA Tour at the Phoenix Open.

Do you think Scottie Scheffler will beat Tiger Woods’ consecutive cuts record?

He's not even halfway there right now…

The world number one was completely lost with his game during day one on Thursday.

He had no idea which way his ball was going and for a professional golfer, the two-way miss is the worst thing to have on the golf course during a tournament.

Scheffler made five bogeys and a double bogey at the Phoenix Open on day one – something he had done just once before since 2021.

However, to his credit, he made the cut comfortably in the end – his 66th in a row – and now he’ll be looking to finish off the tournament in style.

Scottie Scheffler’s comments at the Phoenix Open will concern his rivals

Let’s face it, when Scheffler is on his very best form, he will win every single time.

In fairness, even when he has his ‘B’ game, he has enough in the tank to win.

And now Scheffler has made a quite stunning claim.

He spoke to reporters after his third round 67 at TPC Scottsdale and responded when asked about the current state of his game.

Feels a lot different coming off the course the last two days than on Thursday, and even to start the year, Scheffler admitted.

So I feel very comfortable where I am at and where my game is at. Starting to see the ball start online.

Yeah, feel in control of the golf club.

Overall, I feel like I am in a really good spot. Yeah.

Scheffler feels better with his swing now than he did when he won the American Express two weeks ago.

That should be a big concern for the world number one’s rivals.

It was only three days ago when the golf club felt alien in his hands and he has already fixed that.

Nobody should be surprised if Scheffler goes out and shoots a round of 64 or 63 on Sunday at the Phoenix Open.

Scottie Scheffler echoes Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy opinions

Most players would have missed the cut if they played like Scheffler did on day one in the desert on Thursday.

However, the way in which he battled back highlighted just how good he is at competing.

Is Scottie Scheffler more likely to end up with 50 PGA Tour wins and 10 majors or 25 wins and 5 majors?

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have suggested in the past that the sign of a great player is still being able to contend at tournaments even when they’re not playing their best.

And Scheffler admitted that he could not agree more.

He said: Yeah, when you look at the results I’ve had over the last few years I think probably my greatest skill is being able to stay near the lead.

I think one of the things I’m most proud of is the consistent results I’ve had over the years, so, yeah, definitely agree with that.

Scheffler is quite clearly destined to become one of the greatest golfers of all time, and his performance at the WM Phoenix Open this week has served as further evidence of his unrivalled ability to hang tough when things aren’t going well.
