Scottie Scheffler’s caddy makes incredible claim about what his injury was really like on final day at The Players

Scottie Scheffler’s caddy has shared how much the American was struggling with injury ahead of the final round of The Players Championship on Sunday, as the 27-year-old went on to claim a famous win at Sawgrass.

Heading into the final round, some may have wondered whether Scottie Scheffler had just a little too much to do to retain his title in Florida.

The world number one was five off the lead held by Xander Schauffele. And he was dealing with a neck injury sustained earlier in the week.

But Scheffler claimed one of the most famous wins of his career. He shot a final round 64, with the highlight being that eagle on the fourth hole.

With Schauffele bogeying successive holes on his back nine, both him and Wyndham Clark needed to hole their birdie putts on the last to force a play-off with Scheffler, who was out on the range as he waited for the final group to finish up.

Both players missed however, with Clark’s putt somehow lipping out.

No one may have been more relieved than Scheffler to avoid a play-off, particularly as it seems that his injury was still bothering him.

Speaking on X, his caddy Ted Scott explained that he was not fully fit heading into the dramatic final day.

“Got to witness some pretty crazy golf today by Scottie. He was injured on Friday and showed up today, wasn’t really able to move very well. So we really didn’t know what was going to be in store for today,” he said.

“But sure enough, a man showed up with the tenacity, the resilience, the toughness that he always does. And once that ball went in the hole on four and he made that putt on five, I was like: ‘hey, there’s something special going on’. So pretty cool to witness it. I’m just the closest warm body and just very grateful to be a part of it.”

Clear favourite for Augusta

It is impossible to look past Scheffler for The Masters now. It is a tournament he has already won. And clearly, he can find a way to win from almost any position.

Certainly, those at the top of the leaderboard will be extremely concerned if he is anywhere near being in contention heading into the back nine on Sunday at Augusta National.

This could well be a very special year for Scheffler.
