Scottie Scheffler stormed to yet another win as he sealed a second consecutive Players Championship title at TPC Sawgrass.
Scheffler produced a wonderful final round to reel in both Wyndham Clark and Xander Schauffele. A score of 20 under par was enough for the world number one in the end, as Clark painfully saw his putt to tie lip out on 18.
For Scheffler, 2024 is already shaping up to be a huge year. Having won the Arnold Palmer Invitational last weekend, to follow it up with golf’s ‘Fifth Major’ is certainly someting.
And with The Masters just around the corner now, Dame Laura Davies has made a noteworthy prediction when it comes to Scheffler.
Scottie Scheffler tipped to win them all
Speaking on Sky Sports after the tournament had finished tonight, Davies admitted that she was so impressed by Scheffler that he could actually win all four majors this year.
“I don’t think it’s a stretch to say he’s going to win at least two of the majors. Maybe three. And we could even be talking grand slam here,” Davies said.
Of course, only one player, the great Bobby Jones, has ever won all four in one year. Two players, Tiger Woods and Ben Hogan, have won three, with the last effort that good coming from Woods back in 2000.
Scheffler the man to beat
Just how do you back against this man at the minute? Scottie Scheffler is playing some unbelievable golf and while Davies’ shout here is a bold one, it might happen.
The American seems to be a level above most of the field and now he’s found his form on the greens as well, his potential is huge.
Not since Woods have we seen a player looking this dominant on a golf course so consistently. With Augusta round the corner, you simply would not bet against Scheffler taking the green jacket again.
Of course, the field will be stronger with some LIV players involved. But right now, whoever comes in ahead of Scheffler looks like being the winner.
