Scottie Scheffler is your Memorial champion as the world number one continues his fine form in 2024.
Scheffler held off the fight from Collin Morikawa on a brilliant final day of action at Muirfield Village.
The world number one holed a massive putt on 18 to win by one shot in the end as both he and Morikawa put on a clinic of world-class golf in difficult conditions.
In the end, Scheffler’s consistency and ability to handle the pressure moments proved pivotal and he was a deserving winner.
Of course, winning The Memorial comes with the time honoured tradition of greeting Jack Nicklaus off the green for the customary handshake.
And speaking on Sky Sports immediately after winning, Scheffler shared what made this year’s handshake so surreal.

Scottie Scheffler explains why Jack Nicklaus handshake felt ‘surreal’ after winning The Memorial
“Yeah it’s pretty amazing. I feel like I’ve had some close calls in this tournament. This is a tough place to close out as the golf course is playing so tough,” Scheffler said.
“You know I remember shaking Mr Nicklaus’ hand a few years ago and he told me I didn’t make the putt that day but one day I’ll make the putt and be able to shake his hand and he was right.
“So that was pretty surreal moment to be able to shake his hand as a winner here and I’m really honoured.”
Scheffler just continues to dominate
It’s pretty worrying for the rest of the field that Scottie Scheffler just seems to continue on this march.
Today was a day where it could have gone wrong for him and with Morikawa playing so well alongside, there was a point where it looked like he might falter.
But once again, Scheffler simply rose to the occasion. Yes, Morikawa missed a few chances to draw level down the stretch but in the main, Scheffler’s immense ball striking, brilliant short-game, and ability to find the fairway helped him.

As he says here, he came up just short a few years back but now, he’s added The Memorial to his ever growing list of wins.
Heading into the US Open next week, the rest of the field must be wondering just what have they got to do to beat him.
