Few would have imagined that Scottie Scheffler would prove with a tied eighth finish at the PGA Championship what a golfing freak of nature he really is.
The world number one was tipped by many to be the favourite heading to Valhalla, despite Scottie Scheffler missing a few weeks leading up to the event due to the birth of his child.
The 27-year-old had, of course, won on four of his previous five starts, including at The Masters. So, many were anticipating that Scheffler would clinch a third major title at the PGA Championship.
It was certainly a memorable week for Scheffler, but not for the reasons anyone could have predicted, with the American being arrested as he tried to make his way into the golf course on Friday morning ahead of his second round.
Scottie Scheffler shares what several players told him after arrest at PGA Championship
Scheffler was able to make it back to Valhalla in time for his tee time, but it was not a shock to anyone that he was not a major factor on Sunday.
In fact, what is astonishing is that he still finished inside the top 10. And it seems that the reaction of his fellow players would have helped, with Scheffler explaining in his press conference after his final round that his peers made it clear that they were behind him.

“I did my best to leave that behind me and come out here and compete and do what I love,” he said.
“The support I got from the fans was amazing. They were cheering extra loud for me this week and I got a lot of support from players and caddies as well. A lot of people showing their support and players telling me how much they love me. I’m really grateful to have the community we have out here and the support of people inside the ropes.”
Some in disbelief over how exactly you beat world number one
Some players are clearly wondering what they have to do to actually beat Scheffler.
It would be fascinating to know what exactly he would have done had he been able to simply concentrate on the golf last week.
That is not to put an asterisk against Xander Schauffele’s win by any means, but it seems unbelievable that Scheffler could deal with so much away from the course and end up shooting three rounds in the mid-60s.
