The Presidents Cup has been and gone now but there’s been plenty to talk about from the fallout of the event between Team USA and the Internationals.

The US team won out comfortably in the end but not before the Internationals had made them sweat on day two with a fine comeback.

However, while the result mattered, a lot of the discussion from the event has been about the heated rivalry on course, fuelled in the main, by Tom Kim and Scheffler’s back and forth.

Scheffler himself has already said he only reacted like he did as Kim is a good friend but still, plenty of people have questions.

Indeed, world number two Xander Schauffele claimed that all Kim did at the time was poke the bear a bit.

And when quizzed on if he felt things went too far, the world number one had some words on the matter.

Scottie Scheffler says if the Presidents Cup trash talk went too far or not

Speaking on the GOLF’s Subpar podcast, Scheffler was asked about the antics in Montreal and if he felt things overstepped the mark.

But according to Scheffler, it’s just part of team golf and in the main, he classes it as a positive.

“Did I feel like anything crossed the line on the golf course…no,” Scheffler said.

“I think it was a bit more contentious this week than it had been in year’s past. But I think it was good for the event too.

“You look at a day like Thursday, there wasn’t a ton of energy at the course. The weather and the location made it tough. But Friday and Saturday, the fans really brought it. It was an awesome environment to play in. They were saying some stuff to us but that’s what you get in an away team event.

“It never happens in stroke play because it’s bad taste to say something when they’re over a shot but where you go into away territory, you know it’s going to happen and I think it’s a lot of fun and great for the tournament.”

Scheffler is bang on about the event needing a boost

The Presidents Cup always plays second fiddle to the Ryder Cup and realistically, it needed something like what happened this year to boost viewership and interest.

All in all, nothing went too far really and while Kim and Sung-Jae Im came in for criticism after walking to the next tee, it clearly didn’t bother Scheffler too much.

In the end, it’s almost like the Internationals wore themselves out a bit by being so pumped at times.

For Team USA, it was just business as usual and as per, Scheffler kept his calm to more than help his teammates over the line over the four days.
