Scottie Scheffler has made a terrible start to the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club this week.
Scheffler‘s struggles during opening rounds have worryingly become something of a theme on the PGA Tour in 2026.
After his win at the American Express in January, Scheffler posted opening rounds of 73 and 72 at the WM Phoenix Open and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Are you concerned about Scottie Scheffler right now?
He is really struggling with his first rounds right now…
And things haven’t got any better for the current world number one at the Genesis Invitational this week.
Scheffler’s iron play has been uncharacteristically poor on the PGA Tour so far in 2026.
However, every part of his game aside from his driving let him down badly at Riviera through 10 holes on day one.
And as a result, he has set a new, and very unwelcome, personal record.
Scottie Scheffler sets unwanted record at the Genesis that has stood since his amateur days
Scheffler is a big fan of Riviera as a golf course, but he wasn’t happy one little bit with his form on Thursday.
After 10 holes of the rain delayed first round of the Genesis, Scheffler finished up at five-over-par after carding three bogeys, a double bogey and six pars.

That score was representative of the terribly poor golf that he played, and now he has set a very much unwanted personal record.
Before Thursday’s first round, Scheffler’s worst score for the opening 10 holes of a PGA Tour tournament was when he played the Byron Nelson in 2014 as a 17-year-old amateur.
He was four-over-par for the opening 10 holes at that event, but he eclipsed that score with his start on day one at Riviera.
In addition to that, if Scheffler shoots one-over-par or worse when he completes his first round on Friday, it will be the first time ever in his career that he has carded three consecutive opening rounds on the PGA Tour of 72 or higher.
There is a good chance that will happen, considering the fact that he would need to play the final eight holes of his round in five-under-par in order to shoot 71.
Scottie Scheffler’s woeful stats from day one of the Genesis
There is clearly something not quite right with Scheffler right now.
Do you think Scottie Scheffler will beat Tiger Woods’ consecutive cuts record?
He's not even halfway there right now…
He is so far off with his iron play and he seems to be extremely frustrated out on the golf course.
Here are his stats from his first 10 holes at the Genesis Invitational on Thursday:
| Stats | Scheffler’s rank | Scheffler’s totals |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 20 | 1.806 |
| Strokes gained approach | 61 | -1.581 |
| Strokes gained around the green | 51 | -0.423 |
| Strokes gained putting | 70 | -2.996 |
| Strokes gained total | 71 | -4.921 |
Those numbers show just how badly the 29-year-old struggled on day one in Pacific Palisades.
Can Scheffler bounce back with a fine back nine when play resumes on Friday, and then follow it up with three rounds in the mid-60s to contend at the Genesis?
Nobody should rule that out, especially after what he did in Phoenix and at Pebble Beach!
