Scottie Scheffler will be playing a lot of golf with Xander Schauffele over the next couple of weeks, and the world number one was asked about his compatriot during his post-round interview at the St Jude Championship.
Scheffler and Schauffele are currently at four under, two shots back of leader Chris Kirk. Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood, and Justin Rose are the other notable names who started impressively.
The world number one is looking to finally win the Tour Championship at the end of the month, and Schauffele is likely to be his closet challenger. Scheffler even admitted he hopes changes to East Lake hinder Schauffele’s record in Atlanta.
Scottie Scheffler lauds Xander Schauffele’s work ethic

Schauffele and Scheffler, of course, are good friends, and the world number one was quick to heap praise on his compatriot during his post-round media duties on Thursday.
“I mean, I think he is really consistent,” Scheffler explained. “He is a guy who is never really out of a hole. There are some times throughout the course of the round when you feel like he is going to make a mistake, and he bounces back really quickly.”
Scheffler went on to praise Schauffele’s work ethic.
“He is also a tremendously hard worker so you like seeing guys like that have success,” Scheffler added.

Scheffler has started his playoff campaign in a positive fashion, but the world number one must improve his form at the Tour Championship.
Twice before, the 28-year-old has headed to Atlanta with a lead, only to fall short. And Scheffler has let his thoughts on the current format be known.
Scheffler angered fans after comments he made about the FedEx Cup. The American suggested the Tour Championship cannot be considered a season-long race because pretty much anyone at East Lake is in with a chance of winning.
Evidently, Scheffler doesn’t see eye-to-eye with the Atlanta venue, and it’s a puzzle he must work out if he’s to fend off Schauffele at the end of the month.
