Scottie Scheffler is the man closest to runaway leader Robert MacIntyre at the BMW Championship and he’s been giving his verdict on events at Caves Valley.

Scheffler has not even been at his very best but as usual, he’s in the mix and at minus nine with two rounds to play, MacIntyre will know full well who’s in the rear view mirror.

For Scheffler, this is a tournament he wants to win as he looks to finish the season as strongly as possible ahead of the Ryder Cup.

His second round 66 once again saw him make no bogeys or worse as his remarkable consistency continued.

Alongside Rory McIlroy, Scheffler has very much been a main attraction and has delivered for those adoring fans.

And speaking after round two, Scheffler addressed the partnership with Rory and the crowds.

Scottie Scheffler comments on Rory McIlroy and the crowds at Caves Valley

There’s been an element of frustration from Scottie Scheffler at times this week in interviews.

He was upset at the amount of Ryder Cup questions but as usual, he’s managed to put any negativity to the back of his mind and produce the goods.

Now, speaking about his days with McIlroy, Scheffler admitted it’s been great fun to see such support.

“Yeah, it’s been good. It’s been a lot of fun. Playing with Rory the first couple days, we’ve drawn a nice crowd, and it’s been a lot of fun,” Scheffler admitted.

“Yeah, bogey-free is always nice. I would have liked to get to have gotten a couple better looks down the stretch, but didn’t hit as many fairways the last few holes, and out here with the way the holes are shaped, you’ve got to be in play, and did a good job of saving pars when I needed to on the back.”

Going into a bit more detail on the challenges he faced on the 18th, Scheffler responded when asked why he took so long to make his putt.

“If you could stand back there, it would become pretty obvious. A lot of slope. It was one of those putts, the higher up I got it towards the fringe, the more it was going to break, so I didn’t know if I was going to need to chip it to get it close or not and decided to kind of accept maybe a longer putt for par, and did a really good job of getting a nice lag in there close to the hole,” the world number one continued.

Scottie Scheffler says what he thought of Robert MacIntyre going nine shots clear

It’s safe to say that Scottish star MacIntyre is the man to catch and if he continues as is, he’s going to end up winning.

Nevertheless, Scheffler will not panic and he knows how to hunt down a lead.

Indeed, speaking of how he felt after seeing MacIntyre open up such a lead, Scheffler admitted he was fully aware and had to focus on his own game.

“I had an understanding that was going to happen. Typically around a normal tournament, the earlier you go in the day, the easier it’s going to be. Yesterday with the course playing firm and then all of a sudden we get to our 15th hole and a big rainstorm comes in and it softens the whole thing up, you knew for the guys in the afternoon it was going to play a bit easier,” Scheffler admitted.

“I knew kind of going into today that I was going to be fighting a little bit of an uphill battle, and did a good job of hanging in there and staying in the tournament.”

Scheffler will not be fazed at being five back while MacIntyre, meanwhile, will know very well the world number one is capable of catching him.
