Scottie Scheffler is in prime position to win his first PGA Tour event of 2025 at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
Scheffler was in imperious form on Thursday and Friday at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, shooting rounds of 61 and 63 to lead the PGA Tour event by six shots at the halfway stage.
Even a lengthy rain delay couldn’t halt Scheffler’s progress, as he returned to the course to shoot a six-under-par 30 on his back nine.
After his first round 61, Scheffler admitted that he was shocked at how firm TPC Craig Ranch was, after the rain that battered the golf course on Wednesday.

Well, it was certainly playing a lot softer after six hours of torrential rain on Friday morning.
And that just played right into the two-time major champion’s hands.
Scottie Scheffler reveals what he did during six-hour rain delay at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson
Scheffler is one of the most chilled out golfers on tour.
He never gets flustered when things are going badly and he certainly doesn’t get over excited when he’s playing well.
The 28-year-old seems to take everything in his stride, just look at how he handled being arrested (still feels weird saying that out loud) just before his second round at the PGA Championship this time last year.
So if anyone was going to thrive during a six-hour rain delay, it was always going to be Scheffler.
The reigning FedEx Cup champion spoke to the press after his round and lifted the lid on how he kept himself busy during the six-hour rain delay at TPC Craig Ranch on Friday.
Scheffler said, “Overall, very pleased with how I played. Yeah, pretty good. Go home, get a little bit of rest, and get ready for tomorrow.
“The golf course was pretty wet, but overall I think it recovered nicely. We got a good amount of rain today, and we got a good amount of rain on Wednesday as well. I thought the golf course held up nice. The greens were pretty good still.
“There were some fairways that were pretty wet, but other than that, I think the golf course held up pretty well.

“I made a few trips in there to player dining, had a good amount of food. The food is just sitting there. So we enjoyed some food, sat there, kind of hung out with some of the guys and didn’t do too much.
“Hung out with Chandler Phillips. He’s a good storyteller. I was in there with Burnsy as well and Trevor Cone. We had some fun in there.“
He really is calmness personified in every single scenario isn’t he!
What Scheffler said before the CJ Cup began should scare his rivals
Scheffler has clearly been totally dominant at TPC Craig Ranch so far this week.
To lead by six shots at the halfway stage of a PGA Tour event is almost unheard of.
The reason why his rivals should be concerned though is because Scheffler said on Wednesday that the course at the CJ Cup has been made harder than it ever was before.
He said, “The fairways being narrower, I think it’s really good. I think this golf course, the knock on it would be that it was a little bit too easy the last two years. There wasn’t a ton of rough, and the fairways were too generous. So having the overseeded rough and bringing in some of the fairways, I think brings a challenge to the course.
“I think that’s a good thing. I think putting more of a premium on guys getting the ball in play and not just hitting it as far as you can, I think it’s a really good thing for the golf course. We’ll see how it plays out this week.“
His rivals will be thinking, ‘what on earth would Scheffler have shot if the golf course was playing easier’.
