Scottie Scheffler was in imperious form around Harbour Town Links on Thursday afternoon during the first round of the RBC Heritage.

Scheffler hasn’t been anywhere near his best this season, but he’s still better than most on the PGA Tour!

Scottie Scheffler kicked off his RBC Heritage defence with a seven-under par round of 64, and is currently three shots adrift of the leader – Justin Thomas.

Before there tournament began, Scottie Scheffler said the RBC Heritage was a really easy week, in comparison to The Masters at Augusta National.

He endured a difficult week 145 miles up the road in Augusta. After his final round on Sunday, Scottie Scheffler said his failure to birdie the 15th hole proved costly to his chances of winning the Masters in the end.

The 28-year-old has made seven out of seven cuts this season, and has four top 10’s to his name (PGA Tour website).

So Scheffler is hardly in a crisis right now, and today’s 64 sent a strong message that the No.1 golfer in the world is ready to assert his dominance once again.

The American will be desperate to get back in the winner’s circle this week.

Seven events and zero wins is very ‘un-Scheffler’ like.

He certainly looked in the groove at Harbour Town Links on Thursday morning.

After his round, Scheffler was asked whether it was quite simply too easy out there for him:

“That’s a dumb question. Did it feel easy? It was definitely a less stressful round of golf, compared to last week. A lot of the stuff I had to do last week to shoot a good score, I didn’t have to do today. The golf course is obviously a bit different. Overall, a fairly stress free day, but I would never say that golf is easy, ever. Golf is hard.”

Scheffler then responded when asked how his game felt overall:

I felt like I played really solid. I gave myself a lot of looks out there. Definitely was in position most of the day.

I think I maybe hit one errant tee ball and had to scramble but made a really good par there on 11. But outside of that, I felt like I kept the golf course in front of me for the most part.

The shot that is holding Scottie Scheffler back this season

Even when Scottie isn’t on top form, he’s still more than capable of racking up top-10 finishes.

However, if he is to start winning again, he needs to address the ‘left miss’ with his driver.

That’s according to Rick Gehman who told the RickRunGood how Scottie Scheffler has been plagued with the ‘left miss’ this season:

“My hunch, because I saw a lot of Scottie Scheffler shots, is the reason that he lost strokes off the tee last week was because of that left miss with the driver. It is something we saw early in 2025, it’s not been nearly as good as the way he’s driven it in 2024.”

Scottie will undoubtedly find a way to iron out the creases in his game, and it would surprise nobody if he ended the 2025 season with multiple wins and one or two majors safely tucked away.
