Scottie Scheffler’s third major win provided further confirmation that the world number one is on his way to establishing himself as one of the all-time greats of the game, with Scheffler winning the PGA Championship by five shots at Quail Hollow.

Scottie Scheffler has won his last two tournaments by a combined margin of 13 shots. The 28-year-old went into the PGA Championship off the back of an emphatic victory at The CJ CUP Byron Nelson.

And while he was not quite as comfortable as he had been at TPC Craig Ranch, Scheffler played some outstanding golf on his way to winning the second major of the year. It moves Scheffler halfway to the career grand slam.

Of course, Scheffler went into 2025 off the back of a season in which he won nine times worldwide. That included one major, one Olympic gold medal, the Tour Championship and a host of signature event titles.

The fact that he has now followed that with a third major crown confirms that Scheffler is on the path to becoming one of the best the game has ever seen. In fact, some are already putting him alongside the greatest of all-time.

Speaking on ESPN, Marty Smith told Scheffler that Andy North had named him, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the three best players ever. And Scheffler shared his reaction to that huge claim.

“I try not to think about that sort of stuff. People get trapped. Any time you can be compared to those guys is pretty special but I am always trying to stay in the present,” he said.

“I don’t think about career goals, I am just trying to come out here and compete and be the best I can be. It’s brought me this far. We will see what happens from here but I am just trying to get the most out of myself and be my own man.”

Scheffler certainly appears to be on a trajectory which will put him alongside the best of the best. But clearly, he has plenty of work to do.

Nicklaus is still 15 majors away, while Woods is 12 ahead. And the likes of Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka are ahead within the current era.

Back in 2018, Woods himself named his own Mount Rushmore of golf, with Sam Snead, Bobby Jones and Jack Nicklaus joining Woods.

Scheffler would probably never include himself on his own. But it would be no surprise if he went on to have the kind of career which would give him every right to.
