Scottie Scheffler played alongside fan favourite Shane Lowry during the first two rounds of The Open at Royal Portrush.
Scheffler was in total control of his golf ball on day two of The Open Championship, as he put himself in pole position to win golf’s oldest and most prestigious tournament.
The 16-time PGA Tour winner is on ominous form heading into the weekend at Royal Portrush.
His rivals should be very worried after Scheffler’s exceptional putting helped drive him to the top of the Open leaderboard on Friday.
After his round, Scheffler said he was ‘very proud’ of how he played on day two at The Open, and so he should be.
The American was an absolute class act on the golf course on Friday, in more ways than one.
Scottie Scheffler made ‘wonderful’ gesture to Shane Lowry at The Open
Scheffler is a hugely popular player, but Lowry clearly had the majority of the fans behind him at Royal Portrush during the first two rounds of The Open.
The 38-year-old Irishman was cheered on all the way by the galleries on Thursday and Friday.

Unfortunately for Lowry, he ended up on even-par for the tournament, after receiving a two-stroke penalty when he was adjudged to have moved his ball at address accidentally on the 12th hole.
And while commentating for Sky Sports, Rich Beem noticed something ‘wonderful’ that Scheffler did as he and Lowry walked down the 18th fairway on Friday.
Beem said: “I love the sign of respect from the other two players, allowing Shane to walk up to the green on his own. Wonderful touch.“
That is sheer class from Scheffler, and Collin Morikawa of course.
The 29-year-old American is clearly a true gentleman as well as being the best golfer in the world. That’s not a bad combo at all is it!
Wayne Riley says whether Scottie Scheffler will win The Open
Sky Sports commentator Wayne Riley is a huge fan of Scheffler, and he makes no secret of that fact.
The charismatic Australian spoke after Scheffler’s round of 64 on Friday and absolutely raved about the American.
Riley said: “This guy is seriously good. He is one of those guys with a demeanour like he doesn’t care, really. It’s something that he possesses and we haven’t seen since Tiger Woods. He is by far the best player in the world right now.
“Sure Rory won The Masters but I think it’s very, very simple. We can sit right now looking up at the big yellow famous board, if you beat Scottie Scheffler this week you win. If you’re beating him you’re kissing the Claret Jug on Sunday.
“He has not got a weakness and when you win an Open Championship one thing you have to do is get the ball up and down. You have to chip well and he is unbelievable around the greens.
“His putting surprising enough is not the best, it isn’t the greatest, but when you hit it close time and time again his distance control is phenomenal, like Monty back in the day and Faldo. He is a robot. The guy is just simply incredible.“
What a fantastic description of the world number one’s game that was from Riley.
Scheffler is on the cusp of achieving greatness by winning The Open. He just needs to keep doing what he’s done throughout the first two rounds, and he will tuck away his fourth major championship.
