Scottie Scheffler just seems to get better and better with every week that passes.
Scheffler is in pole position to win The Open Championship on Sunday after a sparkling second round of seven-under par 64.
The American has looked cool, calm and collected on day two at Royal Portrush and his competitors must be thinking it’s more or less game over already.
Scheffler has putted superbly well at The Open this week, and if he keeps that up, he will be an Open champion, there is no doubt about that.
With 16 PGA Tour wins and three majors titles to his name already, Scheffler is the dominant force in world golf right now, and he has been for quite some time in all fairness.

After his second round at Portrush, it’s little wonder why Scheffler is such a big fan of playing at The Open.
But what did the man himself think of his round?

Scheffler now has his destiny in his own hands.
If he performs to his usual standards, he will be holding aloft the Claret Jug come 8pm Sunday evening.
The American really was a joy to watch at Portrush on Friday afternoon.
Scheffler was asked to describe how he felt about his round.
The world number one said: “It felt like I did a lot of things well. Holed some nice putts, hit a lot of good iron shots and definitely hit a few more fairways than I did yesterday so pretty proud of the number I was able to put up.“
He was then asked about his putting.

He said: “Seeing the breaks a little bit better. Last week I felt like there was a bit of mounding on the greens and a lot of double breakers and it could have been a variety of factors, but I got here this week and made sure I was lined up where I thought I was lined up and, yeah, putted.“
Scheffler then responded when asked his thoughts on being ranked 93rd in driving, 100th around the greens, first for approach, second for putting.
He said: “Around the green is always challenging, could be based upon lie. There is a lot of factors that go into around the green. Off the tee I am surprised I was not a little bit better but overall definitely feel like I am hitting the ball very solidly and hitting some great spots.“
Scheffler made his round of 64 look easy, that’s the really worrying thing for his rivals heading into the weekend at The Open.
Imperious Scottie Scheffler on the verge of greatness
Scheffler is on the cusp of winning four major championships, with just two rounds left to play at Portrush.
It surely won’t be too long before he joins the Grand Slam club, but his only focus right now will be on winning The Open.
| Stats | Scheffler’s ranking |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 94th |
| Strokes gained approach | 1st |
| Strokes gained around the greens | 100th |
| Strokes gained putting | 2nd |
| Strokes gained total | 1st |
If he continues to strike his irons as he has done through two rounds, and continues to putt exceptionally well, there will be only one winner this week.
Scheffler is primed to win The Open Championship, and if he does, he will be well on his way to mounting an assault on the major tallies of Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.
