It might be ‘Team USA’ over in the Olympics right now but Scottie Scheffler seems to have a very different opinion to that aspect than some might assume.
Scheffler is one of four Americans looking to win gold and he remains in contention after carding a second round 69 to sit just five off the leader, Xander Schauffele.
As we all know, Scheffler has had a superb 2024 and came into the Olympics admitting he simply wanted to have fun over winning golf.
However, everyone knows he is a competitor and a winner.
Golf – unless you’re on LIV – is an individual sport in the main where only one player can win out.
And when quizzed on if he’d been spending more time with his Team USA teammates due to the team aspect, Scheffler surprisingly played down the team side of things.

Scottie Scheffler has his say on how Team USA are bonding at the Paris Olympics
Speaking to the media after his second round, Scheffler admitted that other than being part of a team, there’s not much more different to any other PGA Tour event when it comes to off-course antics.
“Outside of the practise rounds, I would say not really. The practise rounds, all playing together, that was the biggest team aspect. Once the tournament starts, I think it’s best for us to stick to our normal routines and that’s what we’ve been doing this week,” Scheffler said.
“You know, guys are not going to stick around and cheer me on on 18 because they have to get home and get ready for their round tomorrow, you know what I mean.
“So yes, we are coming over as a team, but I think what’s best for our team is if all of us individually play really well.”
Of course, Scheffler will mean no malice here and he’s simply pointing out what the other three would likely admit.
But at the end of the day, you don’t win like Scheffler has in 2024 without being super competitive and this little nugget here just shows you how dialled in he is to his own game.
