Scottie Scheffler has been speaking ahead of the RBC Heritage and has shared his amazement at what he saw a tour veteran do at Augusta last week.

The 27-year-old dealt with expectations brilliantly to secure his second green jacket with a superb round of 68 on Sunday.

Scheffler has seemingly moved on from his Augusta heroics ahead of the first round at Harbour Town on Thursday. On current form, it would be no surprise to see him land his fourth win of 2024.

Furthermore, when his putter catches fire, which it has done of late, there’s very little anyone on tour can do right now.

It feels like one of the big names will need to step up their game to prevent Scheffler from completely storming the major championships this year.

“I think with the way the golf course was playing, that experience those guys have around Augusta really, really helped them. I mean, just because they are older now doesn’t mean they can’t play any more,” he explained [PGA Tour YouTube Channel].

“Tom Watson almost won the Open when he was about their age, I’m not sure exactly how old he was but it’s always still in there.

“It’s really special when you see them bring that back out. I hit golf balls on the range next to Jose Maria at the beginning of the week and I was amazed by how solid he was still hitting the golf ball. It still had a nice noise to it, which, at his age, is extremely impressive.”

Scheffler added: “It’s always in there; it’s just a question of when they can tap into it. When you get conditions like that around that golf course, it can be really exposed how much talent those guys have.”

How did Jose Marie Olazábal play at The Masters?

In what was, remarkably, his 35th appearance at The Masters, the Spaniard produced a more than respectable outing.

After making the cut on six-over, the 58-year-old only dropped three more shots at the weekend and finished with a level par round of 72.

Evidently, Scheffler is right when it comes to experience around Augusta National. There’s got to be a reason why the likes of Olazábal can make the cut despite not possessing the physical dominance of some of the younger guys on tour.

It’s refreshing to see and gives fans hope that experience and guile are still required ahead of brute force and strength.
