2023 Open champion Brian Harman has suggested Scottie Scheffler does one thing that he doesn’t get enough credit for.
As expected, Scheffler cruised to a four-shot victory at Augusta last week to land his second Green Jacket.
It was an imperious Sunday performance from the 27-year-old as his closer competitors fell by the wayside on the back nine. Colin Morikawa, Ludvig Aberg and Max Homa all faced difficulties on Amen Corner, allowing Scheffler to land his second major victory.
Much of the talk ahead of the tournament surrounded the American and how he would handle the expectation; he answered his critics emphatically.
Ahead of the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town, Harman has shared his thoughts on his compatriot’s win at Augusta.
Brian Harman shares one thing Scottie Scheffler isn’t given credit for

Scheffler’s putting has come under scrutiny during his rise to world number one. The 27-year-old’s work on the greens is often highlighted as a weakness, something Harman disagrees with.
Speaking ahead of the HBC Heritage, the 37-year-old was quizzed on Scheffler’s current form.
A journalist asked: “From the outside looking in, it seems like the gap between him and others has widened?”
Harman replied: “It feels that way from the inside looking out too! I am sure the guys felt the same way when Tiger was winning every tournament he was stepping foot in.
“It feels like right now, if Scottie shows up with anything above a B game, he is probably going to be right there. He has been so consistent. He works extremely hard.
“I remember at the Players this year, he had just won Bay Hill the day before, and Monday afternoon, he was out, just golf ball after golf ball after golf ball. Just working. He has a great mental approach to the game.”
On the American’s putting, he added: “I don’t think he gets enough credit for the way that he does putt. Everyone wants to pick apart his putting but it seems plenty good to me.”
Scottie Scheffler now one of the world’s elite putters
On Augusta’s slippery greens, Scheffler only three-putted twice throughout the week. Furthermore, throughout his four rounds, he didn’t take more than 30 puts per 18 holes.
Considering his impeccable long game, he will be hard to beat moving forward. Talking ahead of The Masters, Dame Laura Davies expected the now two-time champ to tackle the slick surfaces.
Scottie Scheffler 2023/24 stats, per PGA Tour website
| Strokes gained | Rank |
| Putting | 95th |
| Off the tee | 2nd |
| Approach to green | 1st |
| Total | 1st |
Furthermore, when his putter catches fire, which it has done of late, there’s very little anyone on tour can do right now.
It feels like one of the big names will need to step up their game to prevent Scheffler from completely storming the major championships this year.
There is still work to do for Scheffler despite his success last week. He still ranks 96th for strokes gained on the greens. If he can continue to improve, he will be hard to stop in the upcoming majors.
