Dame Laura Davies has been previewing next week’s Masters at Augusta National live on talkSPORT.

A chunk of the world’s best are teeing it up at the Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio in one last attempt to find form ahead of Augusta.

Of course, it’s no surprise to see Scottie Scheffler earmarked as the favourite to land his second Green Jacket.

Scheffler’s putting has always been a weaker part of his game, but after a change to a mallet in March, the American appears to have found a winning formula.

Davies has since opened up on whether she thinks he can continue his excellent work on the greens at Augusta.

Talking on talkSPORT, Davies has shared whether the 27-year-old’s putting will hold up on Augusta’s usually slippery greens.

“Apart from his ungainly footwork, he drives it so straight and so long. That is a huge advantage around Augusta,” she explained.

“He already has a green jacket which takes the pressure off, a lot of the guys haven’t got one, Rory being the obvious pick that hasn’t got one that would love to join the member’s club.

“But Scheffler’s putting has turned around; whether it will hold up to the Augusta greens, we will have to wait and see, but I think it will. He just looks comfortable on the greens now, and his distance control is as good as I’ve ever seen.”

Will Scottie Scheffler land his second green jacket next week?

On paper, it’s hard to look past Scheffler. On his day, no one can compete with his tee-to-green ability. At times this season, it’s been Tiger-esque.

However, pressure is a contributing factor. The world expects the 27-year-old to be walking down the 18th on Sunday with a comfortable lead. It’s up to Scheffler to manage expectations and the spotlight that will follow him next week.

It’s not out of the question for one of the unfancied players to make a run out of the blue. Rory McIlroy’s form is far from his best, but the lowered expectation could work in his favour.

Jordan Spieth is in a similar situation. The American has found life difficult during the early stages of 2024 and couldn’t explain his current form after his first round at the Valero Open on Thursday.

Yet, as we all know, Spieth can pull an incredible round out of nowhere, even if he’s not at his best.
