With The Masters just over a week away now, the excitement is growing.
The tournament at Augusta is very much the showpiece event in the world of golf and there’s added spice this year thanks to the situation with LIV.
As we know, LIV’s latest big recruit, Jon Rahm, is coming back as defending Masters champion. The Spaniard shocked the world when he moved to the PIF-backed tour and will be hoping to retain his crown.
Naturally, a number of PGA players will be keen to ensure they win to get one up on the LIV guys.
PGA players desperate to win The Masters
There are a number of players on the PGA Tour who will fancy this. Xander Schauffele is becoming the ‘nearly man’ of golf, while the likes of Tony Finau, Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood and more will want to make an impression.
Of course, Rory McIlroy will once again be under intense pressure to win. The Northern Irishman needs just this major to complete the career grand slam, but has been out of form recently.
But one man who certainly isn’t out of form is world number one, Scottie Scheffler. The 27-year-old has won two of the last three tournaments on tour and came within a missed putt of forcing a play off in Houston last weekend.

And speaking about Scheffler on the latest Sky Sports Golf podcast, Gary Murphy has said that Scheffler could win The Masters, even if he’s not at full-tilt.
Scottie Scheffler tipped to win The Masters even with his ‘B game’
Murphy was speaking about Scheffler’s performance in Houston last weekend.
And commenting on his game, the Sky Sports analyst suggested Scheffler had not even played that well to come second, in what is a strong message to the rest of the field.
“I don’t think he actually played that well last week. He looked really off with short irons and wedges in particular, he missed quite a few greens with wedges and to still compete and have a putt on the last with Jaeger, who played superb golf, it’s scary to think what he can do if everything clicks. You can’t see many beating him if he turns up with his A or B game,” Murphy said.
Scheffler, then, will be hoping to go about his business as usual. He has a great knack of staying in and around the top of the leader-board going into the final two rounds. From there, he seems to kick on.
The rest of the field, then, has been served notice of the potential of Scottie Scheffler.
