Scottie Scheffler may just be the man to beat at The Open Championship given his stunning season so far.

The 28-year-old American has 12 titles to his name in his superb career, six of which have arrived this year alone.

He will be eager to take his current form into The Open Championship, which takes place at Royal Troon next week.

Many big names have been practising for the fourth and final major of the year in Scotland, particularly at the Scottish Open.

The star-studded roster at The Renaissance Club includes the likes of Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele.

Scottie Scheffler issues Trump Turnberry verdict after practice round

But world number one Scottie Scheffler is preparing elsewhere, having played a practice round at Trump Turnberry.

Scheffler took to the Scottish course alongside fellow American Sam Burns, with the pair now sharing their thoughts on the round.

“Thanks for a great day here at Trump Turnberry, we had a lot of fun getting ready for The Open Championship next week, so it was a good time,” Scheffler told the official Trump Golf X account.

“The golf course is in good shape, it was a lot of fun.”

Burns concurred: “Yeah we had a blast. Awesome golf course, incredible, and we got to beat our caddies today too, which is also fun.”

Can Scottie Scheffler win The Open at Royal Troon?

Scheffler only just picked up another win this season, having beaten Tom Kim in a play-off at the Travelers Championship last month.

He also clinched the Masters earlier this year, but couldn’t replicate that success at the PGA Championship or the US Open.

But the American is certain to be in contention for more silverware at The Open, particularly having been practising in Scotland in the build-up to the tournament.

He won’t, however, be in for a straightforward run at the trophy, with Ludvig Aberg having now shot 12 rounds of 64 or better on tour in the last year, better than the eight of Scheffler.

And there is another PGA Tour winner who could be a threat at Royal Troon, with Smylie Kaufman saying Akshay Bhatia is capable of performing like Scheffler at The Open.
