Scottie Scheffler will be the key player for the United States at the Ryder Cup next month.

Keegan Bradley will be heavily reliant on Scheffler to lead by example at Bethpage Black as the United States look to wrestle the Ryder Cup trophy back from the Europeans.

Scheffler has improved exponentially over the past four years, since his first Ryder Cup appearance at Whistling Straits in 2021.

The same can be said for the captain, with Bradley now in with a genuine chance of making his own Ryder Cup team.

The 45th edition of the Ryder Cup is one of the most highly-anticipated clashes in recent memory.

It’s all shaping up to be a very evenly contested match – one where the finest of details could decide the outcome.

And Scheffler has opened up on a noticeable difference between Bradley and the Ryder Cup captains he has played under previously.

Scheffler is clearly a very big fan of the 39-year-old from Vermont, just like many other top American players are.

Ben Griffin recently said that Bradley has made a huge effort to get the potential American Ryder Cup players closer together as a group.

And now Scheffler has raved about the eight-time PGA Tour winner as well.

The world number one was asked to give an example of how Bradley has gone above and beyond during his role as Ryder Cup captain.

He said: He leaves some messages in our locker every now and then, a lot of text messages. I just feel like, since Keegan is out here a lot versus some of the other captains we’ve had in the past — not that they’ve done a bad job. It’s different having him here week in and week out. He’s a guy that we know well. I loved all of our previous captains, but I think it’s just different when we’re showing up, like hey, you want to play a practice round this week? We see him in dining. He’s just around a lot more, so I think there’s more opportunities for him to be kind of a part of our lives out here. I think that’s really important as he steps into that captain role, knowing the players as well as he does.

He was then asked if Bradley has sought him out for advice.

Scheffler responded: I think we all have a little bit of back and forth, but ultimately Keegan is the one doing all the research. He’s got great assistant captains that are doing a great job of supporting him in that role. They’ll do most of the decision-making when it comes to rounding out the team.

Scottie Scheffler’s Ryder Cup record

Given Scheffler’s talent, his Ryder Cup record is actually fairly poor.

Here are his results for his two Ryder Cup appearances so far:

ResultsScheffler’s totals
Matches played7
Wins2
Losses2
Halves3
Total points3.5

Scheffler will be looking to improve upon those stats at the Ryder Cup at Bethpage in September.

The world number one will most likely play all five matches, and will be looking for a return of a minimum of four points from those.

Scheffler needs to stand up and be counted for the Americans at Bethpage and Bradley could well be the man who gets the best out of him in team competition.
