Scottie Scheffler is still under par at the Procore Championship despite an uncharacteristic opening round of 70 and he’s now given his verdict on the golf course.

With Silverado Resort playing host to all of the US Ryder Cup team, there are some big names on display in California.

One of those is the world number one Scottie Scheffler, who is looking to cap off another memorable year by nabbing another win.

However, after only going round in 70, Scheffler is already seven off the leader, MacKenzie Hughes.

Now, speaking to the press afterwards, Scheffler has given his honest feelings on the course.

Scottie Scheffler says why Silverado Resort has been so tough at the Procore Championship

Every golfer will look for excuses of some sort if they don’t play to their usual level. It’s just human nature.

However, when pressed to effectively criticise the course in Napa, Scheffler simply suggested that it was difficult at times and nothing more.

“Well, you’ve got to get the ball in the fairway. There is a little bit of quirks to the golf course especially as it firms up. The greens can be pretty challenging, and late in the day, it can get fairly bumpy, especially with the amount of pitch on these greens,” Scheffler admitted.

“So the greens were pretty difficult to putt and I kind of found myself on the wrong side of the hole a few times. But overall felt like I learned a good amount about the golf course today and excited to get out early tomorrow and see what I can do.”

Adding a bit more value to his interview, Scheffler was then asked if he had any regrets coming to Napa to play.

“Any drawbacks? I couldn’t really think of one. I mean, you could maybe nit-pick and say you could use some rest, but like I said, it was more important for me to be here instead of having four weeks off before the Ryder Cup,” Scheffler admitted.

Who Scottie Scheffler could partner at the Ryder Cup

In all honesty, Scottie could play with any of Team USA and be a leader and probably win.

However, those decisions are for Keegan Bradley to make, J.J. Spaun could well be the man to partner Scheffler.

The duo are out in a three with Russell Henley and while Scheffler is down in T38, Spaun is flying once again, up at five under par and in T7.

On paper, Scheffler can partner anyone but on pure feel and recency bias, Spaun might be his man.
