Keegan Bradley is quite obviously desperate to guide his US team to Ryder Cup glory at Bethpage Black later this month.

However, in order for that to be at all possible, Bradley has to get his pairings absolutely spot on during the first two days of the Ryder Cup.

It was something that Zach Johnson failed to do in Rome and that proved costly for the US team in the end.

American fans will be hoping that all changes at Bethpage Black in two weeks’ time.

Bradley has been testing out numerous Ryder Cup pairings during practice rounds ahead of the Procore Championship.

The 39-year-old is definitely putting more work in on that front than any US captain since Paul Azinger in 2008.

Many American golf fans, journalists, and indeed players wanted Bradley to pick himself for the US Ryder Cup team.

He opted against that in the end, though, in order to focus purely on his captaincy duties.

And one of the most important tasks he has is to find the perfect partnerships for the foursome and fourball matches at Bethpage.

Pretty much the entire US Ryder Cup team are set to play in the Procore Championship this week.

Bryson DeChambeau will not be playing for obvious reasons while Xander Schauffele has decided to skip the Procore Championship due to the fact that his wife has recently given birth to their child.

So with 10 players teeing it up at the Silverado Resort, Bradley has been provided with a great opportunity to test out some pairings ahead of the showdown at Bethpage Black later this year.

One grouping during the Procore Championship practice rounds caught the attention immediately.

World number one Scottie Scheffler played alongside J.J. Spaun and Russell Henley in Napa on Tuesday.

While Scheffler has paired up with Henley before, it may well be Spaun who is the perfect partner for him at Bethpage.

Both players were in exceptional form on the PGA Tour throughout the 2025 season, and they accounted for three of the four major wins.

The key to success for Bradley at Bethpage will be finding a way to get maximum points from the pairs matches that Scheffler plays on Friday and Saturday.

And taking numerous different factors into account, Spaun is quite clearly the perfect man for the job.

Here’s why Scheffler and Spaun would be a dynamite Ryder Cup pairing

Scheffler was ranked first in strokes gained approach on the PGA Tour in 2025, while Spaun was ranked seventh.

That combination of exceptional iron play would be incredibly difficult to come up against.

Notably, both players are also great drivers of the golf ball.

Scheffler was ranked first in strokes gained off the tee this season while Spaun sat in 23rd position in the total driving category.

The other point to note is that the world number one is now one of the very best putters in the world, while the US Open champion proved at Oakmont that he has a penchant for the extraordinary on the greens.

Scheffler and Spaun would be a dynamite Ryder Cup pairing, and not one single European player would relish coming up against the American duo at Bethpage Black.
