Scottie Scheffler will head into the US Open next month as the favourite to win the tournament.
Scheffler made a slow start to the 2025 PGA Tour season, but he turned that all around earlier this month, with back-to-back wins at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and the PGA Championship.
The 28-year-old finished in a tie for fourth last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge, and he is expected to contend this week at the Memorial Tournament as well.
Scheffler has improved in strokes gained approach to the green this season, and that is quite remarkable considering just how good he was in 2024.

That should really scare his rivals ahead of the US Open next month at Oakmont.
Scheffler is now seventh on the all-time list of consecutive cuts made, with 55 to his name, and there is no golfer better equipped to handle the challenge presented by Oakmont than the American.
Scottie Scheffler gives honest opinion on Oakmont ahead of the US Open
The world number one was in fine spirits after his opening round at Muirfield Village on Thursday afternoon.
In spite of the fact that he trails leader Ben Griffin by five shots, he’s very well placed to go on and win the golf tournament.
He addressed the press after day one at Jack’s Place, and discussed a wide range of topics.
Scheffler responded when asked what he needs to improve heading into day two at the Memorial.
He said, “I need to give myself some more looks. I felt like I was out of the fairway a bit too much today. I was able to hit a decent amount of greens, just giving myself a few more quality looks, I think, would be a big difference.“
Scheffler then responded when asked how he manages to maintain his energy levels with such a busy schedule, “Yeah, I would say my schedule last week and this week’s been a bit different than it would normally be. Last week I went out only on Wednesday. I took Monday and Tuesday off. I only did the nine hole pro-am and I didn’t really practice much outside of that. Definitely no practice after the round or anything like that. This week — I wasn’t really in the midst of it on Sunday, I was a little bit on the outside looking in, so it wasn’t as strenuous. I still had a decent finish, but I was a little bit — I had to have a pretty big back nine if I wanted to give myself a chance, and I wasn’t able to do that. But then I got some rest on Monday, you know, and then had two days of practice here. So I would say last week was a bit of a different schedule, this week’s more of the same.“

But does Scheffler think Muirfield Village is good preparation for the US Open at Oakmont next month?
It certainly seems that way.
The world number one said, “Yeah, I mean, this place is going to show you what you need to work on going forward, for sure. Oakmont’s another golf course like that as well. I love the good test that we get out here, and this is definitely one of the sharper tests that we see throughout the year.“
Then finally, Scheffler was asked what he needs to do in order to thrust himself into contention at Muirfield Village.
He said, “I did a really good job today of scoring, and going into tomorrow I’ll just try and give myself some more quality looks. I felt I hit a decent amount of greens, but wasn’t hitting it as close as I hoped to. I made a sloppy bogey on 13, but overall I was pretty pleased with the results. Had two good up-and-downs on 17 and 18, and a really good birdie on 16, so overall pleased with how I finished.“
Scheffler winning the US Open easily would surprise nobody
The three-time major champion’s stats this year have been outrageously good.
But how do his numbers compare this season to last?
| PGA Tour statistical category | Scheffler’s 2024 rank | Scheffler’s 2025 rank |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 2nd | 2nd |
| Strokes gained approach | 1st | 1st |
| Strokes gained putting | 77th | 23rd |
| Strokes gained total | 1st | 1st |
| Scoring average | 1st | 1st |
Scheffler’s stats have actually improved this season.
And if he strikes the ball like he usually does and putts even to a half decent standard, there’s no reason why he won’t win the fourth major of his career at the US Open at Oakmont next month.
