Scottie Scheffler has been unstoppable through the first three rounds at CJ Cup Byron Nelson, and now he has equalled a record set by Rory McIlroy 14 years ago.
Scheffler has been irrepressible at TPC Craig Ranch, and a lot would have to go wrong for him not to win the CJ Cup Byron Nelson this week.
And if the 28-year-old does end up victorious, which he undoubtedly will, it will serve as a little reminder to McIlroy that he isn’t going anywhere this season.
The Northern Irishman has been in sparkling form in 2025, with three wins to his name at Pebble Beach, The Players Championship and The Masters.
McIlroy has huge respect for Scheffler, and vice versa.

Scheffler set a personal best at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, after gaining 14.59 strokes during the first two rounds.
Now he will be desperate to go out there on Sunday and send out an emphatic statement by winning by double digits.
Scottie Scheffler equals Rory McIlroy record at CJ Cup Byron Nelson
Whenever you equal a record set by McIlroy, you know that you must be doing something right.
Scheffler was only one shot away from equalling the all-time PGA Tour scoring record after 36 holes, set by Justin Thomas at the Sony Open in 2017.
After superb rounds of 61, 63 and 66, the Texan is now primed to finally get his first win of the 2025 season.

Scheffler did something at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson that hasn’t been done for 14 years on the PGA Tour.
Back in 2011, McIlroy dominated the US Open at Congressional.
He led by eight strokes heading into the final round, and ended up cruising to victory.
Scheffler is the first man to equal that record after 54 holes since then.
Scheffler 2025 PGA Tour Stats
The 28-year-old American has been in superb form this season, despite what some reporters have been saying.
He just hasn’t got over the line with a win yet.
His stats this season make for seriously impressive reading.
| 2025 PGA Tour stat | Scheffler’s ranking |
| Strokes gained total | 2nd |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 6th |
| Strokes gained approach to green | 4th |
| Strokes gained putting | 44th |
| Greens in regulation | 8th |

And he will undoubtedly go on to win multiple times between now and the end of the season.
