Scottie Scheffler cruised to a six-shot lead after day two of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

The irrepressible Scheffler fired spectacular rounds of 61 and 63 to finish up at 18-under-par for his first two rounds at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Even a six-hour rain delay couldn’t stop the 28-year-old Dallas native on Friday.

Scheffler said he chilled out and ate a lot of food during the rain delay between his ninth and 10th holes.

After his first round 61, Scheffler admitted that he was shocked at how firm TPC Craig Ranch was, after the golf course was drenched in rain on Wednesday.

The course was hit with another deluge two days later, and the two-time major champion took full advantage, firing a six-under-par 30 on his back nine.

It really was a dominant showing from Scheffler, and his performance was a stark reminder for players like Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau that he is more than ready to challenge them in the majors this year.

Scheffler was streets ahead of every other player at TPC Craig Ranch during the first two days of play.

He’s ranked first in strokes gained approach to the green, strokes gained total, driving accuracy, sand saves, putts per greens in regulation and scrambling.

During the first two days, Scheffler put on quite the exhibition of golf.

His total of 124 was the lowest he has ever shot during the first two rounds of a PGA Tour tournament.

And Scheffler broke another one of his records during the first two days of play at the CJ Cup Bryon Nelson:

Gaining 14.59 strokes on the field after just two rounds is a sign of truly special golf.

Now he will be looking to kick on during round three and stretch out his lead even further still.

What Scheffler said at the RBC Heritage now looks very interesting

Scheffler was as solid as ever at Harbour Town Links during the RBC Heritage.

However, he wasn’t quite where he needed to be as far as challenging to win the tournament is concerned.

And he warned us all what was coming after day three on Hilton Head Island.

Scheffler said, “I feel like I’ve been hanging in there the last couple of days. I had a day on Thursday where I played really good, and then the last two days have been a bit of a battle out there, I’m not exactly sure why that is. I’ve kept myself in the tournament right now, I think I’m five back and only three back of second. So I’m still right in the tournament, a great round tomorrow goes a long way. I feel like I’m really close, like for instance today I get a really good bounce on 10, goes to about 10 feet, hit a really good putt and it didn’t go in. Next hole I hit kind of a wild tee shot and I make back to back bogies. I hit a decent punch shot over the green into the bunker and I have absolutely no shot to get on the green. Little stuff like that, I knew I couldn’t go over the green there – the miss was short and I hit it long. Just little things like that I need to improve on. Today was a day where I was close to getting it going. I did a lot of good things out there today and if I keep it in there mentality and keep doing the things I’m doing I think tomorrow could be a great day.”

He clearly was very close to his best two weeks ago.

And now Scheffler is proving exactly that at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
