Scottie Scheffler has been speaking about representing the USA in the Olympics this year and admitted there’s a reason outside of golf why he wants to be in Paris.
Xander Schauffele won the the gold back Tokyo in 2020, following England’s Justin Rose in being the only two to win an Olympic golf gold medal since it was reintroduced back in 2016.
Going into Paris in 2024, Scheffler will be the world number one and likely America’s best chance of retaining that gold.
But with such a busy schedule and the pressures of being a new Dad, there’s been some question marks over whether Scheffler would fancy it.
However, Scheffler has put those sort of thoughts to bed and admitted he’s got a key reason involving his friends as to why he wants to play.

Scottie Scheffler says there’s a big external reason he wants to play in the Paris Olympics
Speaking in his press conference ahead of playing at Valhalla this week, Scheffler responded when asked about his desire to play in the Olympics in Paris.
“I’m definitely planning on playing,” Scheffler said.
“Becoming an Olympian would be a dream come true, for sure, and it would be a nice little thing to be able to trash talk my buddies about when they say golfers aren’t athletes and I can claim I’m an Olympian!
“I think that is definitely a tournament that has been on my schedule and I’ll definitely be playing there if I’m able.”
The rest of the field won’t want to see Scottie Scheffler in Paris
Winning an Olympic gold medal is something only a handful of people around the world get to do.
Of course, Schauffele taking gold last time out will have inspired others in the USA to go for it and it’s little surprise to see Scheffler putting his name in the hat.
The only sad thing about him going to Paris is the rest of the field will suddenly feel their hearts sink.
Yes, the courses in Europe will represent a different challenge for Scheffler. But the world number one is eating courses alive at the moment and if he’s even half on song, he’ll be bringing that gold back home.
The Olympics get underway at the end of July as part of a huge summer of sport.
