Scottie Scheffler is the highest-profile name not competing in the TGL. The world number one, however, has still kept a close eye on the tech-infused venture.
Monday evening was the best night of the TGL so far. Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links GC beat Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf in overtime to secure their first-ever simulator league victory.
What’s more, PGA Tour sensation Tom Kim starred and set an example to all the players competing in the TGL. The TGL is not just about golf; those competing must demonstrate passion, energy and a willingness to entertain, and that’s precisely what Kim did.
Scheffler, of course, would have increased interest in the TGL, and the two-time Masters champ could make his debut in year two. For now, however, the American is content taking in the action from afar.
Scottie Scheffler shares thoughts on TGL

Speaking ahead of this week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Scheffler discussed the TGL and said he was entertained by the most recent match.
“I haven’t watched much of it. I did catch — I was working out in the trailer last night, and it was on,” Scheffler said. “I had heard the first two matches weren’t very close, but last night was pretty exciting; it was good for them to have a close match.
“I watched like five minutes of the first one one night. I turned on like ESPN, I was rocking Bennett to sleep like late at night and turned it on, caught quite a bit. I think it’s interesting; I think it’s good energy for the sport. I think maybe some new people are getting interested in golf. Overall, I haven’t really paid too much attention to it, but last night was good.”
Why is Scottie Scheffler not playing in the TGL?
To date, Scheffler has not provided a reason behind his decision not to play the TGL. But, given his family situation, it’s easy to see why he turned up the chance to play.
Scheffler’s son Bennett was born just before the 2024 PGA Championship, which means he’s still not even a year old. Clearly, during what is a unique stage in Scheffler’s life, he’s inclined to spend more time with his family.
What’s more, the 28-year-old lives in Dallas, so travelling to Palm Beach once a month could have proven a logistical nightmare. Many of the players competing in the TGL live in Florida.
Finally, Scheffler’s PGA Tour schedule could have played a part in his decision. Heading to Palm Beach before big Tour events would have been far from ideal preparation.
