It’s been a week to forget for world number one Scottie Scheffler when it comes to his performance at the US Open.
Scheffler went into the third major of the year an overwhelming favourite to win after producing yet another stunning round at Muirfield last week.
The 27-year-old has won five times on tour already this year, including winning The Masters, and was expected to go close again.
However, sitting at six over par after his third round of one over, Scheffler is miles off the leaders at Pinehurst No.2 and struggling to get anything going.
Indeed, Scheffler’s performance this week has surprised pretty much everyone in golf.
And speaking to the media after his third round, Scheffler has revealed he’s planning a change when it comes to his preparation.

Discussing his round with the media afterwards and reflecting on his tough week at Pinehurst, Scheffler has conceded that he might need to look at how he’s prepared.
“In terms of prep work for a week that I know is going to be as tough as this, I’m leaning going forward to maybe not playing the week before,” he said.
“It may be in my best interest. That’s something for me to figure out later in the year.”

The fact Scheffler managed to win last week at The Memorial was something of a miracle, given everything he’s had going on in his life.
As well as being a new Dad, we had the drama of Scheffler being arrested at the PGA and having to recover from the shock of that, and subsequent investigations.
All in, it’s probably been a tough period for Scheffler and despite his obvious resilience, even the most hardened human being will suffer.
Scheffler’s comments here on going a different route ahead of tough events make sense and over time, he’s likely to reap the rewards.
