Scottie Scheffler is a man who is used to writing his name into the history books and with the Charles Schwab Challenge in Texas this week, he has the chance to add his name to another exclusive list of golfers.
Scheffler won the PGA Championship by five strokes last weekend to win a third major and cement his status as the world’s best player.
Scheffler saw off charges from Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau to win out at Quail Hollow, and he is now fully focused on the US Open.

However, Scheffler is playing in the Charles Schwab in his home state this week. The event was won by Davis Riley last year, who actually beat Scheffler by five strokes for the victory.
This week, then, Scheffler will be looking to avenge that loss but also, he has a chance to put himself among another exclusive group.

The record Scottie Scheffler can set by winning the Charles Schwab Challenge
Scottie Scheffler goes into every tournament he plays wanting to win. He admitted in his press conference ahead of the event that that’s his goal, and it’s no surprise.
The win at the PGA was a second successive for Scheffler, who after dominating the Byron Nelson in record-breaking fashion, ensured he carried that form into a major.
Now, though, Scheffler can win a third PGA Tour event in a row at the Charles Schwab and if he does, he’ll join an exclusive list of players to win three or more events in a row.
Indeed, on the PGA Tour, it’s something we’ve not seen since way back in 2017 when Dustin Johnson managed it, while prior to that, it was Rory McIlroy in 2014 who did a three-peat.
In fact, since the turn of the century, only Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh are the other names to join Johnson and McIlroy with that achievement.
For Scheffler, then, it’s very much a case of getting another accolade against his name.

The longest winning streaks in PGA Tour history
There’s been 25 golfers to win three tournaments in a row in the history of the PGA Tour but quite remarkably, some have gone even better than that.
It’s no surprise to see Tiger Woods as one of those. Woods has won five, six, and seven in a row, all on separate occasions.
However, the legendary Byron Nelson is the man who sits atop the list, with a stunning 11 wins in a row.
| Player | Year | Winning streak |
| Byron Nelson | 1945 | 11 |
| Tiger Woods | 2006/07 | 7 |
| Ben Hogan | 1948 | 6 |
| Tiger Woods | 1999/00 | 6 |
| Tiger Woods | 2007/08 | 5 |
| Byron Nelson | 1946 | 4 |
| Ben Hogan | 1953 | 4 |
| Jack Burke Jr. | 1952 | 4 |
With Scheffler in with a real chance of winning three straight, it remains to be seen if he can ever manage four or more.
Indeed, it just shows the class Tiger Woods had in his prime, something which Scheffler might well have a long way to go to match.
