The tee times have been released for the 125th US Open at Oakmont this week.

The US Open is expected to be a real grind this week, with Oakmont set to represent a formidable test for the players.

Scottie Scheffler is the red-hot favourite to win the US Open this week, while Rory McIlroy is always capable of turning up and succeeding on the toughest golf courses.

Scheffler looked to be in fine form on the range at Oakmont, and many are expecting him to run away with the US Open this week.

Meanwhile, McIlroy heads into the US Open in poor form, after his missed cut at the Canadian Open.

The American’s all-round game is definitely in better shape than the Northern Irishman’s right now.

That said, both have just been handed some very good news indeed.

Tee times announced for the US Open at Oakmont

Scheffler and McIlroy have been handed really nice groups for the first two rounds of the US Open.

This time, there are no ‘super groups’, so to speak, like when the three best players in the world have played alongside one another in the past.

Instead, McIlroy has been paired alongside his fellow Europeans Shane Lowry and Justin Rose.

That is the perfect grouping for the five-time major champion.

Lowry is one of McIlroy’s best friends, while Rose is very close to the 35-year-old as well.

Both players are very calm out on the course and their attitudes should put McIlroy at ease on Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, Scheffler has been paired with Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland – two really cool and composed characters.

Whilst Morikawa and Hovland haven’t been in great form recently, both are extremely solid operators, and they won’t bring any unwanted fanfare or attention to the first two days of the US Open.

McIlroy and Scheffler’s driving and approach stats

Driving and approach play will be absolutely crucial at Oakmont this week.

Judging by those numbers, Scheffler should run away with the US Open this week, while McIlroy may well struggle.

Oakmont is an unforgiving golf course, and if McIlroy’s driving and approach play is even slightly off, he will be punished to the maximum.
