Sam Burns spoke about Scottie Scheffler after finishing his third round at the US Open on Saturday.
Burns and world number one Scheffler are very close friends off the golf course.
The US Open leader has had to watch his good friend achieve unrivalled success over the past few years, but now it might be his turn to shine.
He heads into the final round on Sunday with a one-stroke lead over J.J. Spaun and Adam Scott.
American Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley raved about Burns’ performance at the US Open during the first two days.

And he will probably be even more impressed with the man from Shreveport, Louisiana, now.
Burns will be incredibly excited about the prospect of winning his national championship on Sunday.
Unfortunately for him though, Scheffler will still be harbouring ambitions of winning the trophy.
Sam Burns comments on Scottie Scheffler after day three at the US Open
Burns lauded Scheffler’s ability back in May during the PGA Championship.
He’s clearly a huge admirer of the three-time major winner’s game, and indeed his personality.
Scheffler returned the favour earlier this week when praising Burns to the hilt.
And now the man currently leading the US Open has opened up on his love for Scheffler once again.
Burns responded when asked if it has been difficult to watch Scheffler dominate over the past three years.

He said, “Yeah, Scottie’s obviously an incredible player. I don’t think I need to say that (laughing). But I think we obviously spend a lot of time together and being able to talk to him and just kind of learn from him and ask him questions, it’s been really cool.
“As good of a player as he is, he’s a better guy, and I think that’s what makes it really special to watch, because you want to root for somebody like that. So he’s an easy guy to root for. He happens to be also the best player in the world. But, yeah, it’s been nice to kind of pick his brain and ask him certain things.“
The US Open leader then replied when asked if he wishes he would have had some of the success that his good friend has achieved.
Burns said, “Yeah, of course. I think as a competitor that’s why we show up to play. We show up to play to win. Watching him do that and watching him have success, it brings me a lot of joy, and him and his wife Meredith and Bennett, they’re just an unbelievable family, and it’s been such a joy to watch how they steward that success to others around them, and just the amount of respect that we have for them is very high.“
What lovely words they were from Burns, and his comments serve as further evidence of what a great man Scheffler is off the golf course.
Sam Burns vs Scottie Scheffler 2025 PGA Tour stats compared
Burns has historically been a consistent top-30 player on the PGA Tour.
However, his performance at the US Open has been an exception rather than the rule this season.
Here is how his numbers stack up against Scheffler’s in 2025.
| PGA Tour stats | Scheffler | Burns |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 1st | 80th |
| Strokes gained approach | 1st | 149th |
| Strokes gained scrambling | 2nd | 109th |
| Strokes gained putting | 25th | 1st |
| Strokes gained total | 1st | 24th |
As you can see from those numbers, Scheffler is streets ahead of Burns in every category aside from putting.
He’s on another level to every single player on the PGA Tour in all fairness.
However, Burns is ranked first and second respectively in the strokes gained approach and strokes gained scrambling categories at the US Open after three rounds.
If he keeps up that form on Sunday, it may well be Scheffler who is envious of Burns for a change after the final round at Oakmont.
