Sahith Theegala shares what his team have ‘notified’ him about his schedule this year

Sahith Theegala is certainly enjoying a fantastic season, although he is still searching for a first victory of 2024.

Theegala has threatened to clinch success on the PGA Tour in recent times, finishing second at both The Sentry and the RBC Heritage.

But his only PGA Tour win to date came at the Procore Championship this time last year, where he beat Kim Seong-hyeon by two shots.

Theegala has been backed to win the Procore Championship once more this week, with Silverado Resort and Spa once again hosting the event.

The American finished the FedExCup Playoffs in superb fashion, securing third place at the Tour Championship.

And he will now be keen to continue that superb form into the Procore Championship, before Theegala takes part in the Presidents Cup.

He is, however, well aware that the busy schedule will soon take its toll, with Theegala saying in his Procore Championship press conference: “I’m addicted to playing tournaments. My team has notified me I need to just relax a little bit.

“Luckily I’ve been very healthy. But if I keep playing 30… I don’t even know what I played the first two years, I think it was like 34 and 32.

“If I keep going down that road it’s just… the body is not meant to hold up playing that many tournaments. I’ve been lucky to be healthy.

“I think including Grant Thornton I’m still going to play 27 this year, but it’s felt like I’ve taken so many weeks off.”

Theegala’s fellow professional Rory McIlroy, who is currently back home this week for the Irish Open, can certainly empathise with the American.

McIlroy plans to reduce his schedule in 2025, having immediately gone from the FedExCup Playoffs to the DP World Tour.

And his season, which also included the Olympics in Paris, is far from over as he looks to clinch another Race to Dubai title.

Theegala meanwhile will soon need to head from the Procore Championship in California to the Royal Montreal Golf Club for the Presidents Cup.

It should be an exciting event for the US Team automatic qualifier, whose only prior international team experience comes from the 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup in France.
