Ben Griffin is in strong contention to play on the Ryder Cup team in September, but he still divides opinion somewhat.

Griffin has won two PGA Tour events this season in what has been a breakout year for him, and now it looks like he will almost certainly be on the Ryder Cup team at Bethpage Black.

The 29-year-old has been in superb form this season, and is currently sitting inside the top-10 on the FedEx Cup points list, although he’s just outside the top six automatic qualifying places for the Ryder Cup team.

Griffin has spoken openly about his desire to play at the Ryder Cup recently, and his game is certainly good enough to make the team.

Just last month, Griffin highlighted the big changes Keegan Bradley is making to the US Ryder Cup set-up.

The 39-year-old from Vermont is trying to form more of a closely-knit group of players ahead of the showdown with Europe at Bethpage.

And as things stand, it seems like Griffin will be on that team in New York State.

Webb Simpson says what he thinks of Ben Griffin ahead of the Ryder Cup

Griffin ended up in a tie for 11th at Sedgefield Country Club.

However, after the final round of the Wyndham, it was Webb Simpson who garnered a lot of attention from the media.

Attention quickly turned to the Ryder Cup in September, where Simpson will be one of Keegan Bradley’s vice-captains.

Simpson was asked to give his verdict on Griffin, after the 29-year-old’s impressive 2025 season on the PGA Tour.

He said: Man, he’s had a killer year. He’s done it not just a couple weeks but really the entire season. You know, he’s confident, he’s aggressive. It’s really nice to see. It’s fun to watch, being out here for a long time, seeing guys kind of have a breakout year and then kind of keep the hammer down, which seems like what he’s doing.

I remember 2011 I was having a great year and Ernie Els told me that same thing at Cog Hill, the BMW Championship, to keep the hammer down, keep the pedal down and it sounds like he’s doing that.

Griffin has clearly impressed the likes of Simpson this season, and he could well be a huge asset for Team USA at the Ryder Cup next month.

Ben Griffin’s PGA Tour results in 2025

The 29-year-old has played extremely well this season.

Not only does he have two wins to his name, but he also hung tough with Scottie Scheffler at the Memorial, just losing out to the world number one in the end.

Griffin has driven the ball exceptionally well this season, and he’s a superb iron player as well.

To top it all off, he is inside the top-30 in the strokes gained putting stats this season.

Griffin will surely be on the 12-man US Ryder Cup team in September, but he’ll still be looking to give Bradley no choice by winning a play-off event over the next few weeks.
