Russell Henley has made a very bright start to his 2025 PGA Tour season, with one win already secured.
Henley is fourth in the US Ryder Cup standings as the team tournament draws nearer, with Bethpage Black playing host to the event in September.
His rise comes after he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier this month, where Henley edged past Collin Morikawa by one shot.
Henley has predicted Morikawa to win soon, with the latter having blown a three-shot lead during the final round at Bay Hill.
The former meanwhile has played a total of seven PGA Tour events in 2025, with one win and four top 10 finishes to his name.

Russell Henley loves being around Scottie Scheffler after Presidents Cup partnership
Henley secured his fifth PGA Tour win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and his first since 2022, although he was part of the winning US Team at the 2024 Presidents Cup.
And he has now shared insight into the tournament in Montreal last September, saying on The Smylie Show: “Two weeks before Kis [Kevin Kisner] called me.

And he said ‘hey me and the captains have been talking, would you be cool playing with Scottie’. And I am like, ‘uhh, yeah. Would he be cool playing with me is the real question?’ I was like ‘of course’.
“And Meridith and Teil get along. I have spent time with Scottie and Sam and I get along with Scottie great.
“I love being around Scottie. He has a great personality and it doesn’t hurt that he won eight times last year and they are asking me if I want to be on his team. I’m like well duh!

“They sent me some of his balls to play with for the alternate and I practised with them some leading up to it.
“I got there and I also talked to Jim [Furyk] on the phone two weeks before as well and he talked to me about it and I just said ‘just to clarify, you are going to put me Scottie and that’s pretty much it’.
“He said ‘yeah I am not going to change it around’. So every practice round it was me and Scottie versus two other guys and it was awesome.”
Russell Henley recalls ‘perfect’ Presidents Cup combination with Scottie Scheffler
Somewhat unsurprisingly, the star-studded US Team continued their dominance of the event, beating the International Team for the 10th consecutive time.
Dispute playing on home soil in Montreal, the hosts were beaten 18½ – 11½, with Henley and Scheffler each scoring three points for their side.
They partnered three times throughout the week, winning their Thursday fourball and Saturday foursome, but losing their Friday foursome.
Asked by Smylie Kaufman how the partnership was, Henley replied: “I felt like the way they had done it was that he was on all the par threes.

“I think if he is on the odds, he got all the par threes and some of them were like 220-yard holes so for his long iron game it was great.
“And then all the other holes was me putting him in the fairway. That was the perfect combination in that sense. If I could just hit balls in the fairway for him then I could putt a lot. So it was a really good combination.
“He played well. He would tell you he struggled a little bit on one of the matches but he’s just an absolute stud.”
Russell Henley says how Scottie Scheffler emulates golfing ‘greats’ like Jack Nicklaus
The Scheffler/Henley pairing helped complete a dominant opening day from the US Team, with the duo beating Im Sung-jae and Tom Kim 3 & 2 on Thursday.
Kim Si-woo and An Byeong-hun then went one up on the duo on Friday, before they recovered to beat Im and Hideki Matsuyama 3 & 2 on Saturday.
Scheffler then lost his Sunday singles meeting with Matsuyama, but Henley managed to come out on top against Im to help guide the visitors to victory.
Sharing further insight into the world number one’s attitude on the course in Montreal, Henley added: “I felt like his demeanour was really steady and calm and confident the whole time.
“Sure, there were some moments where we got really excited but the way he walked into the ball on the 14 hole on Saturday versus Thursday on the first hole was the exact same.
“That’s something that I think the greats have all done. It’s like their demeanour and the speed they are doing things is the same all the time.

“I have heard Jack Nicklaus talk about that and that is something I noticed with him. He is very competitive. I noticed it more in the practice rounds.
“All those guys in that team are really competitive in practice rounds and come Wednesday the day before the tournament we were playing nine-hole matches against each other and Wednesday for me I like to touch the bases and do a little everything but really just mentally relax and these guys wanted to compete.
“The thing was starting Thursday and I mean everybody, all those guys are very competitive. I am too, we all just operate a little differently.”
