Rory McIlroy is firmly in contention to win the US Open this weekend but wasn’t overly happy at Brad Faxon for apparently revealing some of his secrets.
The Northern Irishman is three behind Bryson DeChambeau ahead of the fourth and final round at Pinehurst today.
Three shots may seem a big lead but given how the course has played, McIlroy will fancy his chances of chasing the American down.
Of course, McIlroy could have had it even better had a few putts not slipped by. But in the main, McIlroy has found his putting coming up trumps for him this week.

However, despite being happy with his game, the 34-year-old wasn’t overly impressed with former PGA player Brad Faxon.

Speaking to NBC after his round, McIlroy was asked the following question, which appeared to catch him off guard.
“Our NBC colleague Brad Faxon was saying on the broadcast that you had a bit of a Eureka moment on the plane from the Memorial back home. You figured something out. You got up and were making some practice swings, apparently. Is this true?”
McIlroy, a bit taken aback, responded in kind.
“Okay. It may be true! I don’t know if I want to disclose it right now but it’s nice to know that Fax is giving away all of my secrets!,” McIlroy said.
“We spend a lot of time on planes and I spend a lot of time thinking about things, and I’m in the air and sometimes things come to me.
“I have got a good feeling with most things and I felt good with the putter at Memorial too but sometimes it’s good to get away from the golf course and think about things for a while.”
Whether or not McIlroy will have gone off and had a word with ‘Fax’, remains to be seen.
There was a small glint in his eye to suggest he took it jokingly. But with the stakes so high, McIlroy will not want to give anything away at all.
